Aherp refers to antiviral agents that are highly effective against herpes viruses, especially herpes simplex viruses type i and ii, as well as herpes zoster virus. after entering a cell affected by the herpes virus, acyclovir is converted into active acyclovir triphosphate. its activity is associated with a violation of the synthesis of herpesvirus DNA in a human cell due to inhibition of the function of viral DNA polymerase. acyclovir does not affect other cellular processes that are not associated with the synthesis of viral DNA. The pharmacokinetics of the preparation have not been studied, but, given the literature data, acyclovir in the form of a cream has a very low level of systemic absorption, even with repeated use.
Infections of the lips and face caused by the herpes simplex virus (herpes labialis).
For adults and children over the age of 12, the cream is applied to the affected areas 5 times a day with an interval of 4 hours, except at night. it is important to start treatment as early as possible after the first symptoms of the disease appear. the minimum duration of treatment is 4 days. if healing has not occurred during this time, treatment is continued for up to 10 days. if there is no recovery within 10 days, you should consult a doctor.
Hypersensitivity to acyclovir, other components of the preparation, or valacyclovir.
The preparation is generally well tolerated, but in some cases there may be a temporary sharp or burning pain at the site of application. rarely, slight dryness and flaking of the skin, erythema and itching may occur. very rarely, contact dermatitis may develop, and in some cases - angioedema after topical application of a cream with acyclovir.
Agerp cream should be used only for herpetic lesions of the mucous membrane of the lips and facial skin. it is not recommended to apply the preparation to the mucous membranes of the mouth, eyes and genitals. in case of especially pronounced manifestations of the disease, it is necessary to consult a doctor. Usually, in the presence of herpetic lesions in persons with immunodeficiency conditions, systemic treatment with antiviral agents is prescribed, therefore, in such cases, one should not use agerp alone without consulting a doctor.
Avoid accidental eye contact. In the presence of open lesions of the lips, it should be borne in mind that the herpes simplex virus can be transmitted to others by contact.
