Alka-Seltzer is an effective pain reliever that can improve the malaise caused by too much social life.
1 tablet effervescent contains 324 mg of acetylsalicylic acid.
Acetylsalicylic acid works mainly by inhibiting the release and biosynthesis of prostaglandins from unsaturated fatty acids; reduces platelet aggregation by blocking the release of adenosine diphosphoric acid and thromboxane A2 from the platelets. It has an analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effect. It is absorbed quickly and almost completely from the gastrointestinal tract. Binds to plasma albumin in 50-90%. It easily penetrates into tissues and through the placenta and into breast milk. It is metabolized in the liver and in other tissues. It is excreted in the urine mainly as metabolites (75% as salicyluric acid) and 10% unchanged. T0.5 is 2-4 h. After dissolving, the preparation creates an effective buffering system (containing citric acid and sodium bicarbonate), neutralizing the stomach contents, thus alleviating symptoms related to acidity. The solution is dissociated, thus avoiding the risk of direct irritation of the gastric mucosa by acetylsalicylic acid molecules. The addition of sodium citrate, which alkalizes the urine, increases the excretion of salicylates.
Pain of mild and moderate intensity, e.g. headache (also occurring in gastric hyperacidity), muscle pain (e.g. with a feeling of general breakdown), toothache. Pain and fever in the course of colds and flu.
