Description
Product description
Alzepil tablets are used for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease.
Compound
The active substance is donepezil (one film-coated tablet contains donepezil 5 mg).
Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, low-substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, titanium dioxide (E171), macrogol 400.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to donepezil, piperidine derivatives or any excipients of the preparation.
Mode of application
Adult and elderly patients. Treatment begins with a dose of 5 mg / day (reception 1 time per day). "Alzepil" must be taken orally in the evening, just before bedtime. Doses of 5 mg/day should be followed for at least one month to ensure the earliest possible clinical response to treatment as assessed and to achieve steady-state concentrations of donepezil. After clinical evaluation of treatment at a dose of 5 mg / day for one month, the dose of donepezil can be increased to 10 mg / day (taken once a day).
The maximum recommended daily dose is 10 mg. Doses greater than 10 mg/day have not been studied in clinical studies.
Maintenance treatment may be continued as long as the patient is receiving therapeutic benefit. Thus, the clinical benefit of donepezil should be regularly assessed. If evidence of a therapeutic effect is no longer observed, consideration should be given to discontinuing the preparation. Individual response to donepezil cannot be predicted.
With the abolition of treatment, a gradual decrease in the beneficial effect of donepezil is observed.
Application features
pregnant
It is not recommended to use the preparation during pregnancy and lactation.
Children
"Alzepil" is not recommended for children.
Drivers
Donepezil has minimal to moderate effects on the ability to drive and use machines. Alzheimer's-type dementia can cause impairment in the ability to drive or use machines. In addition, donepezil may cause fatigue, dizziness and muscle cramps, mainly at the beginning of treatment or when the dose is increased. The ability of patients taking donepezil to drive vehicles or use machines should be assessed by a physician in the prescribed manner.
Overdose
An overdose of cholinesterase inhibitors can lead to a cholinergic crisis, which is characterized by severe nausea, vomiting, salivation, excessive sweating, bradycardia, arterial hypotension, respiratory depression, collapse and convulsions. Increasing muscle weakness is possible, which can lead to lethal consequences if the respiratory muscles are affected.
As with any overdose, general supportive measures should be taken. Tertiary anticholinergics such as atropine can be used as an antidote for donepezil overdose.
Side effects
The most common side effects are diarrhea, muscle spasms, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and insomnia.
Storage conditions
Store at a temperature not exceeding 30 ° C, out of the reach of children.
Shelf life - 5 years.
