Propranolol reverses the tachycardia of hypoglycemia. Patients with diabetes should be cautious with the simultaneous use of propranolol and hypoglycemic agents. Propranolol may prolong the hypoglycemic response to insulin.
Antiarrhythmic preparations of the class and amiodarone can increase the effect of propranolol on atrial conduction time and cause a negative inotropic effect.
Propranolol should be used with extreme caution in patients receiving concomitant treatment with cardiodepressants (chloroform, ether, or family anesthetics), antiarrhythmic preparations (quinidine, lidocaine, procainamide), which exacerbate depressant effects.
Guanethidine, reserpine, diuretics and other antihypertensive preparations, including preparations from the group of vasodilators, can increase the hypotensive effect of propranolol.
