    Product description

    Asakol is an anti-inflammatory agent, used for bowel diseases.

    Indications for use

    for the treatment of mild to moderate proctitis and proctosigmoiditis (up to 20 cm from the anus);
    in severe forms of generalized ulcerative colitis, which affects the rectum or rectosigmoid colon, as an adjunct to oral treatment.

    Compound

    1 suppository contains mesalazine 500 mg;
    excipients: solid fat.

    Contraindications

    Hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the components of the preparation.
    Known hypersensitivity to salicylates.
    Severe liver dysfunction.
    Severe renal dysfunction (GFR (glomerular filtration rate) <30 ml / min / 1.73 m2).
    Children up to age 2 years.

    Mode of application

    Suppositories are for rectal use only. If one or more doses are missed, the next dose should be taken as usual.

    Dosage

    Adults
    Induction of remission, 1 suppository 3 times a day after a bowel movement.
    In severe generalized ulcerative colitis that affects the rectum or rectosigmoid colon, and in the case of slow responses to oral therapy, one suppository can be used morning and evening in addition to oral treatment.
    Maintenance treatment in remission: long-term treatment is indicated to prevent relapses: 1 suppository of Asakol® in the morning and in the evening. Suppositories should be inserted deep into the anus after a bowel movement.
    Elderly patients
    Elderly patients in the absence of severe liver or kidney disorders can use the usual adult dose. Studies in a group of elderly patients have not been conducted.

    Application features

    Pregnant
    There are no adequate data on the use of Asakol® by pregnant women. However, in a limited number of pregnant women (627) who took mesalazine, no adverse effects on pregnancy or fetal / newborn health were found. Until now, no other relevant epidemiological data are available.
    In one separate case, renal failure was reported in a newborn whose mother had taken high doses of mesalazine (2-4 g, orally) during pregnancy. Animal studies of oral mesalazine do not indicate direct or indirect adverse effects on pregnancy, embryo / fetal development, labor or postnatal development.
    So, Asakol® should be prescribed during pregnancy only when the expected benefits outweigh the potential risks.
    Children
    Currently, the use of the preparation and its safety for children and adolescents have not been sufficiently studied.
    Drivers
    Asakol® does not affect or may have a slight effect on the ability to drive vehicles and work with other mechanisms.

    Overdose

    There are few data on overdose (eg, attempted suicide with high oral doses of mesalazine) that do not indicate renal or hepatic toxicity. There is no specific antidote. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.

    Side effects

    On the part of the blood and lymphatic system - eosinophilia (as a manifestation of an allergic reaction), deviations in blood test parameters (aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis, pancytopenia, neutropenia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, blood dyscrasia).
    Immune system disorders - hypersensitivity reactions such as allergic rashes, preparation fever, lupus erythematosus, pancolitis.
    From the side of the nervous system - headache, dizziness, paresthesia, peripheral neuropathy.
    From the side of the cardiovascular system, myocarditis, pericarditis.
    From the respiratory system, chest and mediastinal organs, allergic and fibrotic reactions from the lungs (including shortness of breath, cough, bronchospasm, alveolitis, pulmonary eosinophilia, lung infiltration, pneumonitis), interstitial pneumonia, lung disease, pleurisy.
    From the gastrointestinal tract - nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, diarrhea, flatulence, acute pancreatitis.

    Storage conditions

    Store in a dark place at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C. Do not refrigerate, but do not freeze. Keep out of the reach of children.
