    Product description

    Ascoril is a combined preparation consisting of bromhexine, salbutamol and guaifenesin. Ascoril Extemporant syrup contains additional menthol.

    Active ingredients

    Pathogenetically substantiated treatment of cough, a common leading clinical symptom of acute and chronic respiratory diseases, is one of the urgent tasks of a medical specialist. Cough has various characteristics and is a common symptom of an infectious and inflammatory pathology of the respiratory system. For symptomatic therapy, mucoactive preparations are used that contain either one active substance or a complex of various biologically active substances that affect several links in the pathogenesis of cough at once.
    Salbutamol is a short-acting selective β 2 -agonist. Due to its presence in the composition of the preparation, the following effects are realized:
    • relaxes the smooth muscles of the bronchi and blood vessels;
    • prevents bronchospasm;
    • stimulates the motor ability of the ciliated epithelium of the bronchi, increasing bronchial secretion and its evacuation.
    • Bromhexine is a mucolytic with a secretolytic and secretokinetic effect. The main metabolite is ambroxol. The component provides:
    • decrease in the viscosity of sputum;
    • increases the volume of sputum and improves its discharge;
    • stimulation of the synthesis of endogenous surfactant;
    • improved delivery of antibacterial preparations to lung tissue.
    • Guaifenesin - stimulates the secretion of the liquid part of the bronchial mucus, reduces viscosity and prevents sputum from adhering to the bronchial tissues. Effects:
    • promotes the transition of cough from unproductive to productive;
    • increases the production of secretion of the bronchial glands;
    • makes it easier to cough up;
    • has anti-anxiety and calming effect.
    Menthol is a local irritant. Established antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, also has an antispasmodic effect. It has a positive effect on the functions of the ciliated epithelium of the bronchi.
    A well-chosen composition of Ascoril provides an effect on the leading mechanisms of the pathogenesis of cough in infectious inflammation of the tracheobronchial tree - mucostasis and bronchospasm. Thus, taking Ascoril has an expectorant, mucolytic and bronchodilator effect.
    Ascoril for adults exists in the dosage form of tablets, for children over 2 years old - in the form of a syrup.
    Before use, you should consult a doctor and make sure that there are no contraindications.

    Indications for use

    Symptomatic treatment of productive cough for various respiratory diseases, accompanied by bronchospasm.

    Contraindications

    Hypersensitivity to salbutamol, other sympathomimetics, bromhexine, guaifenesin, menthol, or to any of the other components of the preparation. Coronary insufficiency, arrhythmia, other severe cardiovascular diseases, hyperthyroidism, severe liver dysfunctions, gastric and duodenal ulcers.
    Method of administration and dosage
    Adults and children over 12 years of age take 1 tablet orally 3 times a day.
    Children aged 6 to 12 years: ½-1 tablet 3 times a day.
    The duration of treatment is determined individually.

    Overdose

    Symptoms: agitation, confusion, respiratory depression, rapid breathing, impaired consciousness, ataxia, diplopia, mild metabolic acidosis, arrhythmia, chest pain, hypotension up to shock, heart palpitations, tachycardia and severe tremors, especially in the hands. Possible gastrointestinal complaints, including nausea and vomiting; convulsions, extrasystole, drowsiness, headache, hyperglycemia, abdominal pain, exacerbation of gastric ulcer.
    Treatment. Therapy is symptomatic, observation by electrocardiography is indicated for monitoring heart function.

    Application features

    The preparation should be used with caution in patients with glaucoma.
    Very rarely, with the use of bromhexine, severe skin reactions occur, for example, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, Lyell's syndrome. If changes appear on the skin and mucous membranes, you should immediately consult a doctor, and stop using the preparation.
    In case of impaired bronchial motility, which is accompanied by the formation of a large amount of bronchial secretions (malignant cilia syndrome), the preparation should be used with caution because of the possible stagnation of the secretion.
    In case of impaired renal function (including severe renal failure) or liver disease (with moderate to mild liver failure), use with caution (reducing the dose or increasing the time interval between use).
    Periodic monitoring of liver function is recommended, especially with prolonged use.
    Before starting treatment and during treatment of such patients, it is necessary to control the level of glucose in the blood.
    It has been reported about isolated cases of myocardial ischemia associated with the use of salbutamol. Patients with heart disease (for example, coronary artery disease) who are being treated with salbutamol sulfate should seek medical attention if they develop chest pain or other symptoms that suggest a worsening heart disease. Attention should be paid to the assessment of symptoms such as shortness of breath and chest pain, which can be a consequence of both heart disease and diseases of the respiratory system.
    The result of treatment with β 2 -agonists can be severe hypokalemia, it is recommended to check the level of potassium in the blood serum.
    Like other β-adrenergic receptor agonists, salbutamol sulfate can lead to reversible metabolic changes, for example, to an increase in blood sugar levels. As a result, there were isolated reports of the development of ketoacidosis in patients with diabetes mellitus. Concomitant use of corticosteroids can exacerbate this condition.
    Do not prescribe to patients before using anesthesia.
    The preparation should not be used in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
    If there is a history of gastric bleeding, the preparation should be used under medical supervision. When treating with the preparation, it is necessary to consume a sufficient amount of liquid, which increases the expectorant effect of bromhexine.

    Special security measures

    Salbutamol, like other stimulants of β-adrenergic receptors, should be prescribed with caution in patients with convulsive disorders, diabetes mellitus.
    In some patients, as after the use of any other β-adrenergic receptor agonists, clinically important changes in systolic and diastolic blood pressure may be observed. It is known that stimulants of β-adrenergic receptors can cause ECG changes, such as: flattening of the T wave, lengthening of the QT interval, depression of the ST segment. Therefore, salbutamol should be used with caution in patients with diseases of the cardiovascular system, especially with arterial hypertension.
    The need to increase the dose of salbutamol indicates a deterioration in asthma control and requires a revision of therapy, if necessary, the appointment of corticosteroids.
    Guaifenesin should be used with caution in the treatment of cough with excessive sputum production, persistent or chronic cough resulting from smoking, asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema.
