Augmentin (BD) tablets are used in the treatment of bacterial infections in adults and children caused by microorganisms sensitive to the preparation:
One tablet contains (active ingredients):
The dosage is expressed in terms of the content of amoxicillin / clavulanic acid, unless the dosage is expressed in terms of the individual component.
When choosing a dosage of the preparation"Augmentin ™" for the treatment of an individual infection, one should take into account:
For adults and children weighing ≥ 40 kg, the total daily dose is 1750 mg of amoxicillin / 250 mg of clavulanic acid (two tablets), the daily dose is divided into 2 doses. For children weighing <40 kg, the maximum daily dose is 1000-2800 mg amoxicillin / 143-400 mg clavulanic acid when administered as indicated below.
If you need to prescribe large doses of amoxicillin for treatment, you should use other forms of the preparation "Augmentin ™" to avoid the appointment of unnecessary high doses of clavulanic acid.
The duration of treatment is determined by the patient's clinical response to treatment. Some infections (such as osteomyelitis) require long-term treatment. Treatment should not continue for more than 14 days without revision.
Adults and children weighing ≥ 40 kg
The recommended standard dose (for all indications) is 875 mg / 125 mg 2 times a day.
Children weighing from 25 to 40 kg
Treatment can be carried out with the preparation "Augmentin ™" in the form of tablets or suspension.
Recommended doses:
The preparation is intended for oral administration. The tablet should be swallowed whole without chewing. If necessary, the tablet can be broken in half and swallowed in half without chewing.
The preparation should be taken with meals to minimize potential gastrointestinal intolerance.
Therapy can be started with parenteral administration, according to the instructions for use of the injectable form of the preparation "Augmentin ™", and continue with oral forms.
Pregnant
Both active components of the preparation are excreted in breast milk (there is no information on the effect of clavulanic acid on a breastfed infant). Thus, in a breastfed infant, diarrhea and fungal infection of the mucous membranes may develop, therefore, breastfeeding should be discontinued while taking the preparation. The possibility of allergic reactions should be taken into account. The use of amoxicillin / clavulanic acid during breastfeeding is possible only after a doctor has assessed the risk / benefit ratio.
Drivers
Studies on the ability of the preparation to influence the reaction rate when driving vehicles and working with mechanisms have not been carried out. However, undesirable effects (such as allergic reactions, dizziness, convulsions) may occur, which may affect the ability to drive and operate machinery.
Symptoms
Symptoms of gastrointestinal upset and fluid and electrolyte imbalance may occur. Crystalluria was observed associated with the intake of amoxicillin, which in some cases led to the development of renal failure.
In patients with impaired renal function and in patients taking high doses of the preparation, seizures may occur.
Amoxicillin sediments have been reported in bladder catheters, predominantly after high-dose administration. The patency of the catheters should be checked regularly.
Treatment
Gastrointestinal disorders can be treated symptomatically by paying attention to fluid / electrolyte balance. Amoxicillin / clavulanic acid can be removed from the bloodstream by hemodialysis.
The most commonly reported adverse reactions to the preparation were diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
