Bals sulfur gel is an OTC preparation (issued without a doctor's note), the main ingredient of which is sulphide brine from the mineral springs of the Busko Solec health resort. When applied topically to the skin, it has an analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling effect. It can be used in the treatment of osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis (AS), in chronic lumbosacral, neck and shoulder pain, in pain and swelling associated with bruises and sprains, after injuries of the musculoskeletal system for rehabilitation and as an auxiliary in rheumatoid arthritis.
The healing properties of sulphide brine result from the content of active biological ingredients such as: divalent sulfur, hydrosulphide ions, colloidal sulfur and numerous ions, including calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, iron, iodine, bromine. Sulfur ions absorbed by the skin participate in the synthesis of chondroitin sulfuric acid, which is the basic building block of articular cartilage. The gel reduces the feeling of joint pain when moving and walking, as well as discomfort after sprains, sprains and fractures. It is suitable for sulphide iontophoresis and phonophoresis treatments in osteoarthritis and periarticular inflammation.
