Bioprazol Bio Max is used in adult patients for the short-term treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux symptoms (e.g. heartburn and acid regurgitation).
Bioprazol Bio Max in the form of gastro-resistant hard capsules contains an active substance called omeprazole. It belongs to a group of medicines called 'proton pump inhibitors'. They work by reducing the amount of acid that your stomach produces.
Reflux is the backflow of acid from the stomach into the gullet (it connects your throat to your stomach), which may become inflamed and painful. This can cause symptoms such as a burning pain in the chest rising up to the throat (heartburn) and a sour taste in the mouth (acid regurgitation). It may be necessary to take the tablets for 2-3 consecutive days to relieve symptoms.
The usual dose is: one 20 mg capsule once a day for 14 days.
If symptoms persist after this time, contact your doctor. It may be necessary to take the capsules for 2-3 consecutive days to improve symptoms.
- It is recommended to take the capsules in the morning.
- Take the capsules before eating (on an empty stomach).
- Swallow the capsules whole with half a glass of water. The capsules must not be chewed or crushed. This is important as the capsules contain coated pellets which stop the medicine from being broken down by the acid in your stomach. It is important that the pellets are not damaged.
These pellets contain the active ingredient omeprazole and are preserved to break down in the stomach so that it can be absorbed from the gut. The pellets release the active ingredient in the gut, where it is absorbed and then working.
- The active substance is omeprazole. One gastro-resistant capsule, hard contains 20 mg of omeprazole.
The other ingredients are: capsule contents: sucrose, seeds; anhydrous lactose, hypromellose, hydroxypropylcellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, disodium phosphate dodecahydrate, hypromellosphthalate, diethyluftalate, capsule shell: gelatin, indigo carmine (E132), quinoline yellow (E104).
