Broncho-Vaxom Children is a highly effective immunotherapeutic agent designed to strengthen the pediatric immune system against recurrent respiratory tract infections. Formulated as a lyophilized bacterial lysate, it acts as a 'polyvalent vaccine' in capsule form, helping children develop a robust defense against common pathogens. By stimulating both innate and adaptive immunity, this medication significantly reduces the frequency, duration, and severity of viral and bacterial infections, making it a cornerstone in pediatric prophylactic care for chronic bronchitis, sinusitis, and recurring tonsillitis.
Each capsule of Broncho-Vaxom Children contains:
Active Substance: 3.5 mg of Lyophilized bacterial lysates of Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Klebsiella ozaenae, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus viridans, and Moraxella catarrhalis.
Excipients: Anhydrous propyl gallate, sodium glutamate, mannitol, pregelatinized starch, magnesium stearate, and the capsule shell (gelatin, titanium dioxide, indigotine).
The mechanism of Broncho-Vaxom is centered on immunomodulation. At the cellular level, the bacterial lysates interact with the Peyer’s patches in the gastrointestinal mucosa, triggering a systemic immune response.
Stimulation of Macrophages: It increases the activity of macrophages and polymorphonuclear neutrophils, enhancing their ability to engulf pathogens.
Antibody Production: It stimulates the secretion of Secretory Immunoglobulin A (sIgA) in the respiratory tract, which prevents bacteria from adhering to the mucous membranes.
Cytokine Regulation: It promotes the production of protective cytokines (such as Interferon-gamma and Interleukin-2) while balancing the inflammatory response. This multi-layered approach ensures the body is 'primed' to recognize and neutralize respiratory pathogens before they cause clinical symptoms.
Prophylaxis: Prevention of recurrent infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract (bronchitis, rhinitis, sinusitis, otitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis).
Adjuvant Therapy: Used alongside antibiotics or anti-inflammatory preparations during acute episodes of respiratory infections to accelerate recovery.
Exacerbation Prevention: Reducing the risk of acute flare-ups in children with chronic respiratory conditions.
Hypersensitivity: Known allergy to any of the active bacterial lysates or inactive ingredients.
Age Limit: Generally not recommended for children under 6 months of age due to the immaturity of their immune systems.
Autoimmune Diseases: Use with caution and only under strict medical supervision in patients with diagnosed autoimmune conditions.
The standard regimen for children (aged 6 months to 12 years) is as follows:
Preventative Treatment: 1 capsule daily on an empty stomach for 10 consecutive days per month, repeated for 3 consecutive months.
Acute Phase Treatment: 1 capsule daily on an empty stomach until symptoms disappear (minimum of 10 days). If antibiotics are prescribed, Broncho-Vaxom should be taken concurrently from the start of treatment.
For younger children who cannot swallow capsules, the capsule may be opened, and the contents mixed with a small amount of liquid (water, fruit juice, or milk) without losing its efficacy. It is crucial to take the dose in the morning before breakfast for optimal absorption.
While generally well-tolerated, some children may experience:
Gastrointestinal: Nausea, abdominal pain, or diarrhea.
Dermatological: Skin rash, urticaria, or itching.
Respiratory: Slight increase in cough or shortness of breath.
General: Fever or fatigue during the first few days of administration. If a skin reaction or persistent fever occurs, treatment should be discontinued, and a physician consulted.
Vaccinations: It is recommended to wait at least 4 weeks between the administration of an oral live vaccine and Broncho-Vaxom.
Immune Response: In rare cases, a temporary increase in symptoms may occur as the immune system activates; this is usually not a reason to stop treatment unless symptoms are severe.
Driving/Machinery: No influence on the ability to perform activities requiring focus (relevant for older children/adolescents).
