    Product description

Buscopan is a medicine in the form of film-coated tablets used for pain, cramps and colic in the abdomen.

    Dosage

Unless your doctor tells you otherwise:
    Children from 6 to 12 years: 1 tablet 3 times a day
Adults and children over 12 years of age: 1-2 tablets 3-4 times a day
The tablets should be swallowed whole with plenty of liquid.

    Composition

active substance: N-butyloscolamine bromide 10 mg
Excipients: calcium phosphate, corn starch, soluble starch, colloidal silicic acid (Aerosil), tartaric acid, stearic acid, polyvinylpyrrolidone, sucrose, talc, acacia, titanium dioxide, polyethylene glycol 6000, carnauba wax, white wax.

    Action

Buscopan contains N-butyloscolamine bromide (hyoscine butylbromide), which has a relaxant (spasmolytic) effect on the smooth muscles of the digestive tract, bile ducts and the genitourinary system.

    Indications

Pain associated with cramps in the digestive tract (e.g. intestinal colic), biliary tract (hepatic colic), urinary tract (renal colic) and the reproductive organ in women (e.g. dysmenorrhea).

    Contraindications

The preparation should not be used in patients with:
    • muscle tiredness (myasthenia gravis),
    • obstruction in the digestive tract or urinary tract,
    • pathological enlargement of the large intestine (megacolon),
    • narrow-angle glaucoma,
    • with known hypersensitivity to N-butyloscolamine bromide or any other ingredient of the preparation.

    Side effects

The following may occur: dry mouth, increased heart rate, accommodation disorders, disturbed sweating and bladder urine retention. These symptoms are mild and go away on their own.
Allergic reactions, mainly skin rashes and, exceptionally, respiratory disturbances, appear sporadically.
As the preparation only penetrates into the central nervous system to a small extent, there are no side effects from this system.

    Warnings and Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients:
    • prone to tachycardia
    • with narrowing of the intestines or urinary tract

    Use of other medications

The preparation may enhance the anticholinergic effects of antihistamines, quinidine, amantadine, disopyramide and tricyclic antidepressants.
Concomitant treatment with dopamine antagonists (e.g. metoclopramide) and Buscopan may reduce the gastrointestinal effects of both preparation.
Buscopan may increase the tachycardia (increase in heart rate) caused by beta-adrenergic agents.

    Pregnancy and breastfeeding

During pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, the preparation should be used only on the recommendation of a doctor. The preparation can be used when, in the physician's opinion, the benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Buscopan should not be used during breastfeeding.
