Tablets "Cardosal® 10 mg" are used for the following indications:

treatment of essential arterial hypertension in adult patients;
treatment of arterial hypertension in children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 years.

Compound

The active ingredient is olmesartan medoxomil (one coated tablet contains 10 mg of olmesartan medoxomil).

Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, low-substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose, lactose monohydrate, hydroxypropyl cellulose, magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide (E 171), talc, hypromellose.

Contraindications

hypersensitivity to the active substance or to one of the components of the preparation;
pregnant women or women planning to become pregnant;
obstruction of the biliary tract;
the simultaneous use of olmesartan medoxomil with preparations that contain aliskiren is contraindicated in patients with diabetes mellitus and renal failure (GFR <60 ml / minute / 1.73 m2).

Mode of application

Adults

The initial daily dose of olmesartan medoxomil is 10 mg once a day. If the decrease in blood pressure is insufficient, then the dose should be increased to 20 mg once a day. If necessary, the dose can be increased to 40 mg 1 time per day (maximum daily dose) or added to the treatment with hydrochlorothiazide.

The antihypertensive effect of olmesartan medoxomil is observed, as a rule, within 2 weeks after the start of treatment, and the maximum effect is observed 8 weeks after the start of therapy. This should be borne in mind when considering changing the dosage regimen for any patient.

In order to comply with the dosage regimen, the preparation is recommended to be used at approximately the same time every day, with or without food, for example, during breakfast. The tablets should be taken with a sufficient amount of liquid. The tablet should not be chewed.

Children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 years

The recommended initial dose of olmesartan medoxomil for children aged 6 to 18 years is 10 mg once a day. If blood pressure does not decrease sufficiently, the dose can be increased to 20 mg once a day. If a more pronounced decrease in blood pressure is required, for children weighing ≥ 35 kg, the dose of olmesartan medoxomil can be increased to 40 mg per day. For children weighing <35 kg, the daily dose should not exceed 20 mg.

Application features

Pregnant

The preparation is contraindicated in pregnant women or women planning to become pregnant. If pregnancy is confirmed by a preparation during treatment, its use must be stopped immediately and replaced with another preparation approved for use in pregnant women.

Women who are breastfeeding should not use the preparation due to lack of experience with its use during this period. Instead, you can use other antihypertensive preparations that have been proven to be safe during breastfeeding, especially when feeding infants or premature babies.

Drivers

The preparation has a slight or moderate effect on the ability to drive vehicles or other mechanisms. Dizziness or increased fatigue can sometimes occur in patients on antihypertensive therapy, which can impair the ability to respond.

Overdose

There is only limited information about overdose. The most likely effect of overdose is arterial hypotension. In case of an overdose, the patient should be closely monitored and symptomatic, supportive therapy should be carried out.

There are no data on the possibility of removing olmesartan medoxomil by dialysis.

Side effects

Adverse reactions that most often occur during treatment with this preparation are headaches (7.7%), flu-like symptoms (4.0%) and dizziness (3.7%).

Storage conditions

No special storage conditions are required. Keep out of the reach of children.

Shelf life is 3 years.
