Vitamin D3 regulates the metabolism of calcium and phosphates, after an overdose, hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, renal calcidates and bone lesions occur, as well as changes in the cardiovascular system. Hypercalcemia occurs after the application of 50,000-100,000 IU of vitamin D3 per day.
As a rule, adverse reactions are not observed when taken in the recommended doses.
In the case of individual sensitivity to the drug, it is rarely noted, or as a result of the use of very high doses for a long period, hypervitaminosis D may appear.
The simultaneous use of anticonvulsants (for example, such as phenytoin and phenobarbital) or barbiturates (and possibly other drugs that induce liver enzymes) can lead to a decrease in the effect of vitamin D3 through metabolic inactivation.
