    Pharmacological properties

    Edem rino is a combined preparation containing phenylephrine and dimethindene.
    Eden Reno reduces nasal discharge and helps to cleanse the nasal passages without disturbing the physiological functions of the ciliated epithelium and nasal mucosa.
    Phenylephrine belongs to the sympathomimetic amines. It is used as a nasal decongestant with a moderate vasoconstrictor effect, selectively stimulates the α1-adrenergic receptors of the cavernous venous tissue of the nasal mucosa. Thus, it quickly and permanently eliminates the swelling of the nasal mucosa and its paranasal sinuses.
    Dimetindene is an antagonist of histamine H1 receptors, exhibits antiallergic effect. Effective when used in low doses, well tolerated.
    Edem Reno is used topically, so its activity does not correlate with the concentration of active substances in the blood plasma.
    In case of accidental oral administration, the bioavailability of phenylephrine decreased and was approximately 38%, T1 / 2 - about 2.5 hours.
    The systemic bioavailability of dimethindene after oral administration in the form of a solution is about 70%, T½ is about 6 hours.

    Indications

    Symptomatic treatment for colds, nasal congestion, acute and chronic rhinitis; seasonal (hay fever) and non-seasonal allergic rhinitis, acute and chronic sinusitis, vasomotor rhinitis. adjunctive therapy for acute otitis media.
    Preparation for surgery in the nasal area and elimination of edema of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses after surgery.

    Application

    Before administering the preparation, you should thoroughly clean the nose.
    Adults and children over the age of 6 years: 1 injection into each nasal passage 3-4 times a day.
    The bottle should be held vertically with the spray up. Keeping the head straight, insert the tip into the nasal passage, press the spray bottle with a short, sharp movement and, pulling it out of the nose, unclench it. During the injection, it is recommended to inhale slightly through the nose.
    The duration of treatment should not exceed 7 days and depends on the course of the disease.

    Contraindications

    Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation.
    Due to the content of phenylephrine, this preparation, like other vasoconstrictors, is contraindicated in atrophic rhinitis, as well as in patients taking MAO inhibitors or taking them for the previous 14 days.

    Side effects

    The preparation is usually well tolerated.
    In some cases, mild temporary local reactions from the nasal mucosa (burning sensation or dryness) are possible. Very rarely - the development of allergic reactions (in particular, local reactions from the skin, itching, swelling of the eyelids, face, general weakness).

    Special instructions

    Edem Rino should not be used for more than 1 week.
    As with the use of other vasoconstrictor agents, the recommended dose of the preparation should not be exceeded. Excessive use of the preparation, especially in children and the elderly, can cause manifestations of the systemic effect of the preparation.
    Care should be taken to prescribe the preparation to patients with cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, angle-closure glaucoma, thyroid diseases.
    Use during pregnancy and lactation. The preparation is not prescribed during pregnancy and lactation.
    The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving or working with other mechanisms. Does not affect.
    Children. In children under 6 years of age, the preparation in this dosage form is not used. Another dosage form of the preparation should be used - Milt nasal drops.

    Interactions

    The preparation is contraindicated in patients using MAO inhibitors or taking them in the previous 14 days.
    Vasoconstrictor preparations should be used with caution in people taking tricyclic antidepressants and antihypertensive preparations such as β-adrenergic receptor blockers.

    Overdose

    No serious side effects have been reported with the accidental ingestion of the drug in young children.
    Most of the cases were asymptomatic, very rarely, a feeling of fatigue, stomach pain, mild tachycardia, increased blood pressure, excitability, insomnia, and pallor of the skin were reported.
    Treatment: the use of activated carbon, possibly the use of laxatives in young children (gastric lavage is not required); adults and older children are prescribed large amounts of fluids.
