Description
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacokinetics. Substances contained in liquid extracts of both plantain and thyme (thyme), including essential oils, as expectorants, affect the properties, formation and transport of bronchial secretions.
It is carried out as an indirect reflex effect through the gastric mucosa, and the direct effect of essential oils on the bronchial glands, which enhances their activity. This contributes to the increase, liquefaction and dissolution of bronchial secretions, as well as increased transport of secretions through the ciliated epithelium. This is especially important in the later stages of acute bronchitis and in chronic bronchitis, when there is an increased secretion of viscous mucus by the submucous glands. In addition, essential oils, due to their surface activity, reduce the binding capacity of highly viscous mucus on the mucous membrane of the trachea and bronchi.
Thyme is characterized by the pronounced antimicrobial potential of thymol and carvacrol. Plantain mucous substances help to protect the damaged bronchial mucosa from further irritation.
Pharmacodynamics. Has not been investigated.
