Flutamide tablets are used for the following indications:

• treatment of locally advanced or metastatic prostate cancer, either as monotherapy (with or without orchidectomy) or in combination with luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LHRH) agonists, in patients who have not previously received any treatment or who do not respond or who have developed resistance to hormonal therapy or its intolerance, in order to achieve maximum androgenic blockade;
• in combination therapy as one of the means for the treatment of locally limited prostate cancer B2-C2 (T2b-T4), to reduce tumor volume, enhance tumor control and increase the period between exacerbations of the disease.

Composition

The active ingredient is flutamide (one tablet contains 250 mg of flutamide).

Excipients: mannitol (E 421), sodium lauryl sulfate, povidone K-30, microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal anhydrous silicon dioxide, sodium starch glycolate (type A), magnesium stearate.

Contraindications

• hypersensitivity to flutamide or to excipients that make up the preparation;
• severe hepatic impairment (baseline liver enzymes should be assessed before starting treatment);
• children's age (up to 18 years old).

Mode of application

The preparation is taken orally, one tablet (250 mg) 3 times a day after meals every 8 hours. The daily dose is 750 mg.

As part of combination therapy with LHRH agonists, taking the preparation "Flutamide" should be started at least three days before the start of therapy with LHRH agonists.

"Flutamide" should be prescribed 8 weeks before the start of radiation therapy and continued throughout its course or 12 weeks before prostatectomy.

The preparation  should be used only for men. During therapy, it is necessary to use appropriate methods of contraception.

Drivers

The study of the effect of the preparation on the ability to drive vehicles or other mechanisms has not been conducted. During treatment with flutamide, side reactions such as fatigue, dizziness, and partial impairment of consciousness are possible. In such cases, it is necessary to refrain from driving or working with other mechanisms.

Overdose

In animal experiments, flutamide led to hypoactivity, piloerection, slowed down the respiratory rate, caused ataxia and / or lacrimation, anorexia, sedation, vomiting, and methemoglobinemia.

Clinical evidence suggests that taking flutamide in a daily dose of up to 1500 mg for 36 weeks does not cause serious side effects. Sometimes gynecomastia, engorgement of the mammary glands, and transient changes in hepatic transaminase levels occur. A dose of flutamide (up to 5 g) does not cause overdose symptoms and does not pose a threat to life.

Overdose symptoms that would threaten a person's life are unknown.

Given the high degree of binding of flutamide to blood plasma proteins, it cannot be removed by dialysis. As with the treatment of an overdose of any preparation, the possibility of simultaneous administration of several preparations by the patient should be considered. Shows the implementation of general measures to control and maintain the vital parameters of the body. Gastric lavage may be required.

Side effects

In monotherapy, the most common adverse reactions during treatment with Flutamide are gynecomastia and / or tenderness in the mammary glands, sometimes accompanied by galactorrhea. These reactions disappear after discontinuation of treatment or dose reduction.

In combination therapy with flutamide and an LHRH agonist, the most common side effects were fever, decreased libido, impotence, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
