    Product description

Milt nasal drops is a combination preparation containing phenylephrine and dimethindene.

The preparation reduces nasal discharge and helps to cleanse the nasal passages without disturbing the physiological functions of the ciliated epithelium and nasal mucosa.

Phenylephrine belongs to the sympathomimetic amines. It is used as a nasal decongestant with a moderate vasoconstrictor effect, selectively stimulates the α1-adrenergic receptors of the cavernous venous tissue of the nasal mucosa. Thus, it quickly and permanently eliminates the swelling of the nasal mucosa and its paranasal sinuses.

Dimetindene is an antagonist of histamine H1 receptors, has antiallergic effect. Effective when used in low doses, well tolerated.

    Indications for use

In adults and children over 2 years old:

    • symptomatic treatment of colds, nasal congestion, acute and chronic rhinitis, seasonal (hay fever) and non-seasonal allergic rhinitis, acute and chronic sinusitis, vasomotor rhinitis.
    • adjunctive therapy for acute otitis media.

Preparation for surgery in the nasal area, and elimination of edema of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses after surgery.

    Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to phenylephrine, dimethindene maleate or any excipients.

Due to the content of phenylephrine, the preparation, like other vasoconstrictors, is contraindicated in atrophic rhinitis, angle-closure glaucoma, as well as in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO) or taking them for the previous 14 days.

    Method of administration and dosage

Before administering the preparation, you should thoroughly clean the nose. The patient should tilt his head back when sitting or standing, or to the side if he is lying in bed. After instilling the drops, it is advisable to leave the head tilted for a few minutes to allow the preparation to spread in the nasal cavity.

The dropper cap should be washed and dried before screwing onto the vial.

Children from 2 to 6 years old: 1-2 drops in each nasal passage 3-4 times a day.

Children from 6 years old and adults: 3-4 drops in each nasal passage 3-4 times a day.

The period of continuous treatment should not exceed 3 days and depends on the course of the disease. The use of the preparation  in children from 2 to 12 years old should be carried out under the supervision of adults.

    Overdose

In case of an overdose, the preparation Milt nasal drops can cause such sympathomimetic and anticholinergic effects as increased heartbeat, premature contraction of the ventricles of the heart, pain in the back of the head, tremors or tremors, mild tachycardia, high blood pressure, mydriasis, numbness, agitation, hallucinations, insomnia and convulsions, pallor. An overdose of the preparation can cause moderate sedation, increased fatigue, coma, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting.

There were no serious side effects reported after accidental use of the preparation. Accidental ingestion of doses of dimetindene up to 20 mg into the gastrointestinal tract did not lead to severe symptoms.

Treatment: the use of activated carbon, possibly laxatives for young children (gastric lavage is not required); adults and older children are prescribed plenty of fluids.

Phenylephrine-induced hypertension, which exhibits an inadequate response to benzodiazepines, can be treated with an α-adrenergic blocker. Central anticholinergic symptoms can be treated with physostigmine. It is advisable to consult a doctor regarding the use of antidotes. Since there are no data on the ingestion of doses of dimetindene more than 20 mg into the gastrointestinal tract, patients with significant overdose are shown medical supervision and, if a doctor prescribes, a single dose of activated carbon. Severe agitation and seizures should be treated with benzodiazepines.
