    Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics. The active ingredient is the husk of plantain seeds, which consists of the epidermis and adjacent destroyed layers of dried mature plantago ovata forssk seeds. (plantago ispaghula roxb.). psyllium husk is especially rich in dietary fiber and plant mucus, the content of mucus in them is much higher than that of other species of the genus plantago.

The active ingredient of the preparation absorbs an amount of water approximately 40 times its own weight. It consists of 85% water-soluble fiber and is partially fermentable (in vitro 72% non-fermentable residue) and acts by hydrating the faeces.

Intestinal motility and transit speed can be altered by seed husks causing mechanical expansion of the intestinal walls. This is due to an increase in intestinal volume and a decrease in the viscosity of the luminescent content due to water absorption.

When the preparation is taken with a large amount of liquid, the seed husk increases the volume of intestinal contents due to the high volume-forming ability of the husk and, as a result, causes irritating stretching, which causes defecation. At the same time, the swollen mass of mucous substance forms a lubricating layer, which facilitates the passage of intestinal contents. The preparation restores the normal passage of intestinal contents.

The beginning of the action. Psyllium husk usually acts as a laxative within 12-24 hours after a single dose. Sometimes the maximum effect is achieved only after 2-3 days.

    Indications

Chronic constipation diseases in which it is desirable to have a soft, facilitated bowel movement, for example, fissures in the anus, hemorrhoids, after surgery in the rectum; irritable bowel syndrome.

    Application

Unless otherwise prescribed, the following recommendations for use should be adhered to, otherwise mukofalk orange will not have a therapeutic effect!

For chronic constipation and diseases in which facilitated bowel movement is desirable, adults and children over the age of 12 are administered one sachet (5 g) by mouth, the preparation Mucofalk Orange 2-3 times a day after stirring in a sufficient amount of liquid (at least 150 ml for one sachet).

If the preparation is prescribed as an adjuvant for diarrhea or irritable bowel syndrome or hypercholesterolemia, use one sachet (5 g), dissolved in a sufficient amount of liquid (at least 150 ml per sachet), 2-6 times a day.

If the patient has prolonged constipation and irregular bowel movements, which are observed for more than 3 days, or diarrhea that lasts more than 2 days and is accompanied by blood or fever, it is necessary to consult a doctor.

    Recommendations for use:

    1. Never use this medication dry, as it may be difficult to swallow.

    2. Pour the granules from the bag into an empty glass.

    3. Slowly fill the glass with cold water (at least 150 ml).

    4. Stir with a spoon and, making sure there are no lumps left, drink immediately. Do not take while lying down or just before bed!

    5. Then drink another glass of water.

The effect of the use of the preparation Mucofalk Orange, as a rule, is observed 12-24 hours after administration.

You should take Mucofalk Orange during the day at least half an hour before or after taking other medicines.

If the patient has forgotten to take the preparation, it is necessary to continue treatment in accordance with the dosage recommendations, but not to increase the dose.

Before interrupting or discontinuing treatment, it is advisable to consult a doctor.

    Contraindications

A known hypersensitivity reaction to ispaghula (plantago, psyllium), as well as hypersensitivity to one of the components of the preparation; any sudden change in bowel function lasting more than 2 weeks; taking a laxative in the absence of bowel movements; rectal bleeding of unexplained etiology; Difficulty swallowing or other problems with throat or swallowing stenosis of the esophagus, cardiac opening of the esophagus or other parts of the gastrointestinal tract; risk of developing or existing obstruction (ileus), or megacolon syndrome, intestinal paralysis.

    Side effects

The appearance of flatulence and a feeling of overcrowding in the abdomen is possible, however, in the process of further treatment, these phenomena, as a rule, disappear.

Bloating and problems with emptying may occur, and there is also a risk of ileus or esophageal obstruction, especially if you do not drink enough fluids.

Psyllium husk contains allergens that can cause hypersensitivity reactions if ingested or in contact with the skin. Symptoms of a hypersensitivity reaction include rhinitis, conjunctivitis, bronchospasm, and in some cases anaphylactic shock. Skin reactions such as exanthema and pruritus have also been reported. The frequency of these adverse effects is unknown.

    Special instructions

Mucofalk orange must be taken with a sufficient amount of liquid (at least 150 ml per 1 sachet (5 g)).

Bulking agents can cause obstruction of the airways and esophagus with dyspnea and intestinal obstruction if not given enough fluid. Symptoms may include chest pain, vomiting, or difficulty swallowing or breathing.

Mucofalk Orange should not be taken lying down or just before bedtime.

Swallowing dry granules may result in difficulty swallowing and choking.

For diarrhea, the most important aspect of treatment is the restoration of water and electrolyte balance.

Mucofalk Orange should not be taken by patients with constipation and symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. These symptoms can be signs of existing or possible intestinal obstruction.

Patients taking Mucofalk Orange for the treatment of chronic constipation should discontinue treatment with the preparation and consult a doctor if they experience abdominal pain or uneven stool consistency.

Weakened patients and the elderly should be monitored during treatment.

Mucofalk Orange contains sucrose, so the preparation should not be used in patients with hereditary fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome or congenital sucrase-isomaltase deficiency.

One dose of the preparation Mucofalk Orange (5 g) contains 3.9 mmol (90 mg) sodium. This should be considered in patients on a low sodium / low salt diet.

For patients who are concomitantly using thyroid hormones, dose adjustment may be required.

For patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, a decrease in the dose of insulin may be required due to a slowdown in the resorption of carbohydrates.

Use during pregnancy and lactation. There are no contraindications for the use of Mukofalk Orange during pregnancy and lactation. There are only limited data (less than 300 cases of pregnancy) on the use of the preparation during pregnancy. Animal studies are insufficient to draw conclusions about reproductive toxicity.

The use of the preparation during pregnancy and lactation is possible if necessary or in the absence of the effect of changing the diet. It is necessary to carry out a bowel cleansing procedure before using other laxatives.

Children. Mucofalk Orange is not prescribed for children under the age of 12 years due to insufficient experience with the use of the preparation in patients of this age group.

The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving or working with other mechanisms. No influence on the ability to drive vehicles or mechanisms has been identified.

    Interactions

Between taking the preparation mukofalk orange and other medicines, you should take a break of about 30-60 minutes, since the absorption in the intestine of other preparations that the patient takes at the same time, such as minerals (for example, calcium, iron, zinc), vitamins (vitamin b12), cardiac glycosides , coumarins, and carbamazepine may be delayed.

Fillers and preparations that inhibit natural intestinal motility (eg, loperamide, opium tincture) should not be used concomitantly with this preparation, as intestinal obstruction may develop.

Patients with diabetes mellitus with the simultaneous use of Mucofalk Orange may require correction of antidiabetic treatment.

It is possible to reduce the severity of the effect of thyroid hormones, even if they are not taken simultaneously.

    Overdose

If the preparation is taken at a dose higher than the recommended dose, then side effects such as abdominal pain may appear, and flatulence and a feeling of fullness in the intestines may increase. first of all, you need to drink a sufficient amount of liquid. if necessary, the doctor should prescribe symptomatic therapy.

Mom is happy with the product. Been using it for a few weeks now and it really works! However, it is worth taking a break from it from time to time so that the body does not get used to it, because then it can work differently!
