    Indication

    Acute diarrhea of infectious etiology.

    Contraindication

    Hypersensitivity to nifuroxazid, other components of the preparation, as well as to other derivatives of 5-nitrofuran. for the preparation in the form of capsules: age up to 7 years (children up to 7 years old use nifuroxazid-Sperco in the form of a suspension).

    Application

    Use nifuroxazid internally, regardless of food intake, at regular intervals. The suspension must be shaken before use. A measuring spoon (capacity 5 ml), graduated in 2.5 ml increments, included in the package, is used for dosing.
    Children over 2 years of age: 5 ml of suspension 3 times a day.
    Adults: 5 ml of suspension 4 times a day.
    The maximum daily dose of nifuroxazid is 800 mg. The duration of treatment should not exceed 7 days.
    Children. Do not use in children under 2 years of age.

    Special instructions

    Suspension. Nifuroxazide treatment does not exclude dietary regimen and rehydration. if necessary, concomitant rehydration therapy should be used depending on the age, condition of the patient and the intensity of diarrhea.
    Rehydration should be the main element of treatment for acute diarrhea in children. Children should be provided with frequent (every 15 minutes) drinking. Prevention or treatment of dehydration should be carried out with oral or intravenous solutions. If rehydration is prescribed, it is recommended to use solutions intended for this purpose, in accordance with the instructions for dilution and use. The prescribed volume of oral rehydration solutions depends on the loss of body weight. In case of severe diarrhea, intense vomiting and refusal to eat, intravenous rehydration is required. If there is no need for such rehydration, it is necessary to compensate for the loss of fluid by drinking a large amount of drinks containing salt and sugar (based on the average daily need of 2 liters of water). Diet recommendations during diarrhea should be taken into account: avoid eating fresh vegetables and fruits, spicy food, frozen foods and drinks. Preference should be given to rice. The decision to use dairy products should be made on a case-by-case basis. If diarrhea is accompanied by clinical manifestations indicating aggressive phenomena (deterioration of the general condition, fever, symptoms of intoxication), nifuroxazid must be prescribed together with systemic antibacterial preparations used to treat intestinal infections, since the preparation is not absorbed in the intestines and does not enter the systemic circulation. blood circulation The preparation is not prescribed as monotherapy for the treatment of intestinal infections complicated by sepsis.
    The preparation contains sucrose, which should be taken into account when prescribing the preparation to patients with diabetes. It is not recommended to prescribe to patients with hereditary disorders of tolerance to sucrose or fructose.
    The preparation contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), which can cause an allergic reaction.
    During treatment, it is forbidden to drink alcohol due to the risk of developing a disulfiram-like reaction, which is manifested by exacerbation of diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, a feeling of heat in the face and upper half of the body, hyperemia, tinnitus, difficulty breathing, tachycardia.
    Application during pregnancy and lactation. There are no sufficient data on possible teratogenic and fetotoxic effects when using nifuroxazide during pregnancy. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, the use of nifuroxazide during pregnancy is not recommended.
    The preparation can be used by women during breastfeeding during short-term treatment with Nifuroxazid.
    Children. For the treatment of children under the age of 7, Nifuroxazid-Sperco is prescribed in the form of a suspension. The suspension is not used in children under 2 years of age.

    Overdose

    Cases of overdose have not been described. in case of overdose, gastric lavage and symptomatic treatment are recommended.

    Side effects

    Capsules. the preparation is well tolerated, occasionally temporary abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and increased diarrhea may occur. in the event of the appearance of symptoms from the gastrointestinal tract of minor intensity, there is no need to use special therapy or stop using nifuroxazide, since these symptoms disappear on their own.
    Patients with hypersensitivity to nitrofuran derivatives may experience granulocytopenia; allergic reactions, as a rule, of the skin type (skin rash, itching, urticaria, pustulosis). In rare cases, as with the use of other nitrofuran derivatives, shortness of breath, severe hypersensitivity reactions, including angioedema and anaphylactic shock, may occur.
    In case of severe adverse reactions, the preparation should be discontinued and symptomatic therapy should be carried out. In the future, the patient should avoid taking nifuroxazide and other nitrofuran derivatives.

    Interactions

    Nifuroxazid is not recommended to be used simultaneously with sorbents, preparations that include alcohol, preparations that can cause antabuse reactions, and preparations that depress the central nervous system.
