Pharmacodynamics. The active substance of this preparation is phenol; in low concentrations (from 0.25 to 1.5%), its water-glycerin solution is used as a local antiseptic (bactericidal and antifungal effect) and a local anesthetic for treating the mucous membrane of the oral cavity and pharynx. glycerin has a softening effect on the oral mucosa.
Pharmacokinetics. Phenol, which is part of the preparation, is absorbed and excreted by mucus, followed by excretion through the gastrointestinal tract. In case of overdose, phenol is metabolized in the liver and excreted by the kidneys.
As an analgesic and antiseptic:
with infectious and inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity and pharynx (tonsillitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, stomatitis, gingivitis, periodontitis);
after manipulations in the oral cavity and pharynx, dental operations;
when using dentures or orthodontic appliances.
Spray into mouth and / or pharynx, liquid can be swallowed. when applied in the oral cavity - hold in the mouth for 15 seconds, then remove. for children aged 2 to 12 years, spraying is carried out by pressing 3 times on the spray bottle. children over 12 years old and adults - by pressing 5 times. repeat spraying every 2–4 hours or as directed by a physician. the duration of use is determined by the clinical effect and tolerability of the preparation. if the dose of phenol in the form of a spray is missed, and the patient uses it regularly, the preparationcan be used when the patient remembers it. in the case when the time of the next appointment is approaching, it is not recommended to use a double dose without consulting a doctor. the duration of treatment for uncomplicated angina should not exceed 7 days.
Increased individual sensitivity to the preparation. severe liver or kidney dysfunction. phenol should not be used in the form of a throat spray in patients with inflammation of the epiglottis, in inflammatory diseases with widespread lesions of the mucous membranes.
From the immune system. allergic reactions.
On the part of the skin and subcutaneous tissues. Urticaria, itching, angioedema, rash. Possible reactions at the site of application, local swelling of the throat.
From the kidneys and urinary tract. Chromaturia (dark brown or green urine).
The spray is intended for short-term use. if the symptoms of the disease do not disappear within 7 days, this may indicate the presence of organic pathology (abscess, neoplasm), which requires other methods of treatment. a doctor's consultation is necessary within 1–2 days in case of severe sore throat and / or symptoms such as fever, headache, rash, nausea or vomiting. if the condition worsens, you should immediately consult a doctor.
The concentration of phenol in the preparation is recognized as safe in terms of toxicity or oncogenicity. Orasept® does not have a damaging effect on tooth enamel.
Use during pregnancy and lactation. Data on the use of phenol during pregnancy are absent or limited (less than 300 cases of treatment of pregnant women).
The results of the studies do not indicate the presence of direct or indirect reproductive toxicity when the preparation is dosed as recommended.
If you need to use the preparation during pregnancy, you should consult your doctor.
It is not known whether phenol is excreted in breast milk. Therefore, the risk to newborns / babies cannot be excluded.

Children. Children under 12 years of age should use this product under adult supervision. The preparation should not be used in children under 2 years of age.
The preparation is prescribed in the complex therapy of inflammatory diseases of the mouth and throat together with sulfonamides, antibiotics, vitamins.
Without consulting a doctor, you should not use the preparation simultaneously with medicines for the treatment of myasthenia gravis; preparations that depress the central nervous system; disinfectant solutions containing heavy metals; MAO inhibitors; blockers of neuromuscular transmission; opioids; vasoconstrictors.
When taken orally, phenol causes damage to the mucous membranes, nausea, vomiting, increased sweating, diarrhea. dizziness and weakness are possible. first excitement may occur, after which loss of consciousness occurs. there is a depression of the central nervous system with inhibition of blood circulation and respiration. in severe cases, it is possible to develop pulmonary edema, liver or kidney damage, which leads to dysfunction of these organs. lethal outcome occurs due to respiratory failure, lethal dose - 1-15 g of phenol taken internally. in case of an overdose, symptomatic treatment is recommended (gastric lavage, intake of activated carbon, if necessary, hospitalization in the toxicology department).
