    Product description

    Vaginal suppositories (candles) Ovestin is prescribed for the following indications:
    • Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for the treatment of mucosal atrophy of the lower urinary tract associated with estrogen deficiency in postmenopausal women.
    • Pre- and postoperative treatment of postmenopausal women with vaginal surgery.
    • As an aid in the diagnosis of doubtful cases of atrophic cervical smear (class III according to the Papanicolaou test) in postmenopausal women in case of detection of pathological cells that indicate atrophy of the epithelium.

    Compound

    Active ingredient: estriol;
    1 suppository contains estriol 0.5 mg;
    Excipients: solid fat.

    Contraindications

    Established a history of or suspected breast cancer.
    Established or suspected estrogen dependence malignant tumors (for example, endometrial cancer).
    Vaginal bleeding of unknown etiology.
    Untreated endometrial hyperplasia.
    Previous or current venous thromboembolism (VTE) (deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism).
    Established thromboembolic disorders (eg, deficiency of protein C, protein S, or antithrombin).
    Active or recent thromboembolic arterial disease (eg, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction).
    Liver disease in active form or a history of liver disease, after which liver function indicators have not returned to normal values.
    Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
    Porfiry.

    Mode of application

    Ovestin vaginal suppositories should be inserted into the vagina in the evening before bedtime. The patient should insert the suppository in the supine position as deep as possible into the vagina.

    Overdose

    In the case of the introduction of a large amount of the preparation in women and girls, nausea, vomiting and bleeding may appear as a withdrawal syndrome. The specific antidote is unknown. If necessary, symptomatic treatment should be carried out.

    Side effects

    General disorders and reactions at the injection site: irritation and itching at the injection site, flu-like symptoms.
    From the genital organs and mammary glands: discomfort and pain in the mammary glands, vaginal discharge.

    Interaction

    Ritonavir and nelfinavir are known to be potent inhibitors, but they conversely exhibit inducing properties when used with steroid hormones.
    A clinically significant increase in the metabolism of estrogens and progestogens can lead to a decrease in the effectiveness of Ovestin and to a change in the bleeding pattern.

    Storage conditions

    Store at a temperature of 2° - 25°C in a dry, dark place.
    Keep out of the reach of children.
