Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics. Papalor is a herbal preparation containing an extract of the roots of the South African plant pelargonium sidoides. the preparation has a pronounced antiviral, antibacterial, immunomodulatory, mucolytic, cytoprotective effect, is effective at all stages of the pathogenesis of ARVI, and also prevents the progression and development of complications. the clinical effectiveness of the phytoextract is due to the action of the main components that make up its composition: flavonoids (quercetin, halocatechin, kaempferol, etc.); coumarins (umkalin, scopolin, scopoletin, etc.), as well as phenolic acids (gallic acid, etc.).
The antibacterial activity of the preparation is manifested against various gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, beta-hemolytic Streptococcus) and gram-negative (Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Haemophilus influenzae) bacteria.
The effect on the nonspecific immune response consists in stimulating the phagocytic activity of macrophages and releasing NO from them, increasing the expression of CD11b-adhesion of molecules on the surface of neutrophils, and inhibiting leukocyte chemotaxis. This indicates the immunomodulatory properties of the preparation.
The preparation helps to activate the mechanisms of cleaning the respiratory tract, improves the excretion of viscous mucus and eliminates the conditions for the reproduction of pathological bacteria.
In addition, phenolic acids stimulate the endogenous antiviral defense system, promote the synthesis of anti-inflammatory interleukins, interferon, protect cells from damage during infections, thereby having a positive effect on the treatment process.
Pharmacokinetics. Papalor is a complex mixture of numerous components, which together are considered the active substance. Pharmacokinetic data are not available.
Indications
Acute and chronic infectious and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract and nasopharynx (bronchitis, catarrhal tonsillitis, sinusitis, rhinopharyngitis).
Application
Papalor is taken orally 0.5 hours before meals. before taking the preparation, it is recommended to dilute with a small amount of liquid.

Special instructions
The preparation should not be taken with an increased tendency to bleeding, as well as with severe liver and kidney disease due to the lack of sufficient experience in its use in such cases.

Children. The preparation is used in children aged 1 year and older.

Interactions
With the simultaneous use of oral anticoagulants of the group of vitamin K antagonists, an increase in the anticoagulant effect is possible.
