    Product description

    Pentasa prolonged-release tablets are indicated for mild to moderate ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease.

    Compound

    Active substance: mesalazine;
    1 tablet contains mesalazine 500 mg;
    Excipients: povidone, ethyl cellulose, magnesium stearate, talc, microcrystalline cellulose.

    Contraindications

    Hypersensitivity to mesalazine, to any of the components of the preparation, or to salicylates. Severe violations of liver and / or kidney function. Peptic ulcer of the stomach or duodenum. Hemorrhagic diathesis.

    Mode of application

    The tablets are taken orally without chewing. To facilitate swallowing, the tablet can be dissolved in 50 ml of cold water. Stir and drink immediately.
    The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor depending on the course of the disease.

    Application features

    Pregnant
    During pregnancy, mesalazine can be used only when, in the opinion of the doctor, the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the likely risk to the fetus.
    Children
    The preparation should not be used to treat children under 6 years of age.
    Drivers
    Mesalazine does not affect or has a slight effect on the ability to drive vehicles or operate other mechanisms. If dizziness is observed during preparation treatment, you should refrain from driving.

    Overdose

    There is only limited clinical experience with Pentasa overdose, which does not indicate the presence of renal or hepatic toxicity. There is no specific antidote; treatment should be symptomatic and supportive. There was information about the use by patients of daily doses of up to 8 g for a month without the occurrence of any side effects.
    Due to the development of prolonged-release granules and the specific pharmacokinetic properties of mesalazine, poisoning is not expected even when the preparation is taken in large doses.
    In general, the symptoms should correspond to the symptoms of salicylic acid salt poisoning: acid-base intoxication, hyperventilation of the lungs, dehydration caused by sweating and vomiting, hypoglycemia.
    Overdose treatment: with acidosis or alkalosis - restoration of acid-base and electrolyte balance; with dehydration - rehydration; with hypoglycemia - the use of glucose. Additionally, intravenous administration of electrolyte solutions to increase urine output. Close monitoring of kidney function.

    Side effects

    Adverse reactions that were most often observed in clinical studies: diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, headache, vomiting and rash. Hypersensitivity reactions and preparation fever sometimes occur.

    Interaction

    Simultaneous treatment with Pentasa and azathioprine, 6-mercaptopurine or thioguanine in studies led to an increase in the frequency of myelosuppressive effects; there is probably an interaction between the indicated means. The mechanism of this interaction is not fully understood. It is recommended to regularly monitor the level of leukocytes and adjust the dose of thiopurines accordingly.
    According to unconfirmed reports, mesalazine can weaken the anticoagulant effect of warfarin.
    It is possible to enhance the hypoglycemic effect of sulfonylurea derivatives, the toxic effect of methotrexate. The activity of furosemide, spironolactone, sulfonamides, rifampicin, uricosuric preparations (probenecid and sulfinpyrazone) may decrease. Mesalazine may be able to potentiate the undesirable effect of glucocorticoids on the gastric mucosa, and may reduce the absorption of digoxin.

    Storage conditions
