Description
Pharmacological properties
Pharysil is a combined antiseptic preparation for topical use for infectious and inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity and throat. the effect of the preparation is provided by the action of the components that make up its composition.
Chlorhexidine is an antiseptic agent, the action of which is due to surface cationic properties, which leads to a violation of the integrity of the membranes of microorganisms. The preparation is active against most bacteria, fungi and viruses, has a microbicidal effect.
Benzocaine, which is part of the preparation, has a local anesthetic (analgesic) effect. Reduces sore throat, perspiration, pain when swallowing.
About 30% of chlorhexidine is absorbed in the oral cavity, excreted with saliva during the day, which significantly prolongs its effect. Benzocaine is almost not absorbed in the oral cavity.
Indications
Local treatment of acute infectious and inflammatory diseases of the mouth and throat.
Application
1 tablet should be slowly dissolved in the mouth.
Adults and children over the age of 12 take 1 tablet every 2-3 hours, but no more than 8 tablets per day.
The duration of preparation use depends on the course of the disease and usually ranges from 3 to 7 days, but if symptoms persist or worsen 2 days after starting the preparation, consult a doctor.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine, benzocaine or other components of the preparation or other anesthetics.
Side effects
On the part of the digestive system: a change in taste and irritation of the oral mucosa, with prolonged use of the preparation, staining of the teeth and tongue is possible, which gradually disappears after the preparation is discontinued.
Allergic reactions: itching, urticaria, exanthema, angioedema.
special instructions
Patients with intolerance to ether-type anesthetics (novocaine), parabens may also exhibit hypersensitivity to benzocaine. the preparation should be used with caution in children, elderly patients and seriously ill patients, since they are more sensitive to benzocaine, and exceeding the dose can lead to methemoglobinemia. the tablets should not be bitten or swallowed, since the effect of the preparation is local and is possible only with direct contact with the affected area.
Use during pregnancy and lactation. Despite the fact that chlorhexidine and benzocaine do not have embryotoxic and fetotoxic effects, there is not enough clinical data on use during pregnancy, therefore the doctor determines the need for prescribingpreparationto pregnant women, taking into account the expected benefits to the mother and the potential risk to the fetus / child. It is not known whether the active components of the preparation are excreted in breast milk.
Children. Pharysil is used in children over the age of 12 years.
The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving or operating other mechanisms. Does not affect.
Interactions
The preparation should not be used with other local antiseptics. it should be borne in mind that benzocaine metabolites significantly weaken the antibacterial effect of sulfonamide derivatives.
Overdose
Due to the low absorption of the preparation, overdose is unlikely. theoretically, an overdose of chlorhexidine may be accompanied by symptoms of alcohol intoxication (speech impairment, instability when walking), especially in children. an overdose of benzocaine causes symptoms from the central nervous system (dizziness, diplopia, agitation, convulsions, depression).
Symptomatic treatment, gastric lavage, use of sorbents. In case of methemoglobinemia, methylene blue should be given.
Storage conditions
At a temperature not higher than 30 ˚С.
