Product description
The preparation Vigalex Forte 2000 IU contains vitamin D3 , which is an active ingredient. The medicine is presented as small white tablets with a score line for easier taking.
Indications
Vigalex Forte 2000 IU is used in patients from 6 years of age with a normal body weight:
to prevent vitamin D deficiency in children and adults,
in the prevention of vitamin D deficiency in women planning pregnancy, pregnant and breastfeeding women in consultation with a doctor,
in the prevention of rickets and osteomalacia in children and adults,
supportive in the treatment of osteoporosis in adults.
Composition
1 tablet contains:
active substance: cholecalciferol 20 mg, powder, which corresponds to 0.05 mg (2000 IU) of cholecalciferol (vitamin D3),
other ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose (type 102), calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, pregelatinized maize starch, crospovidone (type A), sucrose, magnesium stearate, sodium ascorbate, medium chain saturated fatty acid triglycerides, colloidal anhydrous silica, all-rac- α-Tocopherol.
Action
Prevention of vitamin D3 deficiency.
Dosage
Take the medicine as described in the package leaflet, or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Children from 6 to 10 years of age with normal body weight: 1000 IU daily.
Adolescents from 11 to 18 years of age with normal body weight:
to prevent vitamin D deficiency: 1000 to 2000 IU per day,
prevention of rickets and osteomalacia: 2000 IU daily.
Adults with a normal body weight:
prevention of vitamin D deficiency: 1000 to 2000 IU per day,
prevention of rickets and osteomalacia: 2000 IU per day,
supportive treatment of osteoporosis: 2,000 to 4,000 IU per day.
Women planning pregnancy, pregnant and breastfeeding women: consult your doctor about the dose for you.
Patients with renal insufficiency: should not be used in patients with renal insufficiency without medical supervision.
Patients with hepatic insufficiency: there are no special dosage recommendations.
Contraindications
Nephrolithiasis or severe kidney failure.
In the case of alleged hypoparathyroidism.
Allergy to the active substance or to any of the other ingredients of these preparations.
If you have hypercalcemia (too much calcium in the blood) or hypercalciuria (too much calcium in the urine).
Storage
Keep the preparation out of the sight and reach of children, at a temperature below 30ºC.
Side effects
This medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):
gastrointestinal disorders such as constipation, flatulence , nausea, abdominal pain or diarrhea
skin hypersensitivity such as itchy skin, rash or hives;
in the case of long-term use of high doses, hypercalcaemia (too much calcium in the blood) and hypercalciuria (excessive excretion of calcium in the urine) occur. Fatalities have been reported in individual cases.
Interactions
Antacids used to treat hyperacidity, containing aluminum, used with Vigalex Forte may lead to an increase in the level of aluminum in the blood, thereby increasing the risk of bone toxicity of aluminum.
Antacids containing magnesium , taken at the same time as Vigalex Forte, may lead to an increase in the level of magnesium in the blood.
Certain medicines with anti-epileptic, sedative or hypnotic effects (containing phenytoin or barbiturates) may reduce the effect of Vigalex Forte when used at the same time.
Diuretics can lead to hypercalcaemia (increased calcium levels) due to decreased renal excretion of calcium.
Taking glucocorticoids (adrenal hormones) at the same time may reduce the effect of Vigalex Forte.
Vigalex Forte may increase the effect and toxicity of digitalis glycosides, which leads to the risk of developing cardiac arrhythmias.
The simultaneous use of vitamin D metabolites or analogues and Vigalex Forte is possible only on the recommendation of a doctor, only in exceptional cases, provided that serum calcium levels are controlled.
Rifampicin and isoniazid may reduce the effect of Vigalex Forte.
Warnings and Precautions
If you are taking other preparations containing vitamin D. , please inform your doctor, as additional doses of vitamin D can only be taken under medical supervision.
Vigalex Forte should be used under medical supervision:
if you have sarcoidosis (an immune system disease that can increase the amount of vitamin D in your body)
during the presence of impaired renal function,
during treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics,
in children under 6 years of age,
when the use of vitamin D is long-term (over 3 months), because in this case the doctor should check the level of calcium in the serum and urine, and check the kidney function by measuring the level of creatinine in the patient's blood,
the preparation contains sucrose, if the patient has been diagnosed with an intolerance to some sugars, the patient should consult a doctor before taking these preparations.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding
If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, thinks that she may be pregnant or is planning to have a baby, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
Driving vehicles and operating machinery
Vigalex Forte has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
