    Product description

    Vigalex Max is a preparation whose active substance is vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), supporting the bone formation process. The indication for the use of the preparation is the prevention of vitamin D deficiency and conditions resulting from vitamin D deficiency in adults with obesity. Each tablet contains 40 mg of colecalciferol. Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is produced in the body in the skin by the action of UV rays and is supplied with food. Vitamin D deficiency is associated with disorders of bone calcification (rickets) or loss of calcium from the bones (osteomalacia).

    Indications

    Prophylaxis of vitamin D deficiency and conditions resulting from vitamin D deficiency in obese adults [body mass index (BMI) ≥ 30].

    Composition

    1 tablet contains:

    • active ingredient: cholecalciferol 40 mg,
    • the other ingredients are: microcrystalline cellulose (type 102), calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, pregelatinized starch, maize starch, crospovidone (type A), sucrose, magnesium stearate, sodium ascorbate, medium chain saturated fatty acid triglycerides, anhydrous colloidal silica, all-rac -α-Tocopherol.

    Action

    Prevention of vitamin D3 deficiency.

    Dosage

    Always use the medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

    • Adults prophylactically during vitamin D deficiency and conditions resulting from vitamin D deficiency (obesity): 1 tablet 4000 IU a day, in the months from October to April or throughout the year, if effective skin synthesis of vitamin D is not ensured in the summer months.
    • Patients with renal insufficiency should not use the preparation without medical supervision.
    • Patients with hepatic insufficiency: no specific dosage recommendations.

    Contraindications

    • If you are allergic to the active ingredient or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine, you should not use it.
    • Do not use in case of hypercalcemia (too much calcium in the blood) or hypercalciuria (excessive excretion of calcium in the urine).
    • If you have kidney stones or severe kidney failure.
    • In the case of alleged hypoparathyroidism,
    • Vigalex Max should not be used in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

    Storage

    Store below 30ºC.

    Side effects

    This medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

    Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):

    • constipation
    • flatulence
    • nausea,
    • stomach pain or diarrhea
    • itchy skin
    • rash or hives
    • Hypercalcaemia (too much calcium in the blood) and hypercalciuria (excessive excretion of calcium in the urine) occur with prolonged use of high doses. Fatalities have been reported in individual cases.

    Interactions

    • The use of antacids containing aluminum, intended for the treatment of hyperacidity, when used together with Vigalex Max may increase the concentration of aluminum in the blood, increasing the risk of aluminum toxicity on bones.
    • Taking antacids containing magnesium simultaneously with Vigalex Max may increase the concentration of magnesium in the blood.
    • Certain antiepileptic, sedative or hypnotic preparations (containing phenytoin or barbiturates), used simultaneously with Vigalex Max, may reduce its effectiveness.
    • Certain diuretics can lead to hypercalcaemia (increased calcium levels) caused by decreased renal excretion of calcium. Serum and urine calcium levels should be monitored during long-term treatment.
    • Taking glucocorticosteroids (adrenal cortex hormones) at the same time may suppress the effect of Vigalex Max.
    • Vigalex Max may increase the effect and toxicity of digitalis glycosides, which creates a risk of developing cardiac arrhythmias. In this case, the physician should monitor the levels of calcium in the serum and urine of the patients, and perform periodic ECG tests.
    • The use of metabolites or analogues of vitamin D (e.g. calcitriol) and Vigalex Max is possible only on the recommendation of a doctor, only in exceptional cases, provided that serum calcium levels are controlled.
    • Rifampicin and isoniazid may reduce the effectiveness of Vigalex Max.

    Warnings and Precautions

    • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about the use of Vigalex Max.
    • Vigalex Max should be used under the supervision of a doctor:
    • while taking also other products containing vitamin D, because additional doses of vitamin D can only be taken under medical supervision,
    • if you have sarcoidosis (an immune system disease that can increase the amount of vitamin D in your body)
    • if you have kidney problems
    • during treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics,
    • when treatment with vitamin D is long-term (more than 3 months), as in this case the doctor should monitor the patient's serum and urine calcium levels, and check the kidney function by measuring the level of creatinine in the blood.

    Pregnancy, breastfeeding

    • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

    Pregnancy

    • To determine the dose of the preparation taken, consult a physician.
    • Do not take the preparation without medical supervision in doses higher than 2000 IU / day.

    Breast-feeding

    • Ask your doctor for advice on the dose of vitamin D you should take during breastfeeding before taking this medicine.
    • Do not take the preparation without medical supervision in doses higher than 2000 IU / day.

    Driving vehicles and operating machinery

    • Vigalex Max does not affect the ability to drive and use machines.

    Vigalex Max contains sucrose

    • If there is an intolerance to some sugars, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

    This medicine contains less than 1 mmol (23 mg) sodium

    • At the recommended dosage unit, this means that the medicine is essentially 'sodium-free'.
