Treatment and prevention of vitamin E deficiency caused by long-term improper nutrition or metabolic disorders (e.g. hereditary disorders of lipid metabolism: abetalipoproteinemia, malabsorption syndrome, cystic fibrosis). Supportive in atherosclerosis, ischemic heart disease and its secondary prevention, and in all diseases whose etiology is related to oxidative stress.
1 ml (about 30 drops) contains 300 mg (300 IU) of int-rac-α-Tocopherylis acetas (all-rac-α-tocopheryl acetate) and excipients: purified peanut oil.
Vitamin E is one of the essential nutrients, although its role is not exactly known. Together with catalose, superoxide dismutase, glutatin peroxidase and selenium, it protects polyunsaturated fatty acids against degradation by free radicals and prevents hemolysis of red blood cells. Protection against free radicals also seems to be important in the development and functioning of the nervous and muscular systems.
The drug is intended for oral use. Usually it is used preventively: newborns, infants and children up to 6 years of age: 10 IU 1 drop daily, children from 7 to 15 years of age: 20 i.m. (2 drops) daily, adolescents and adults: 100 to 200 IU 10 to 20 drops daily; abetalipoproteinemia: children and adults: 50 to 100 IU / kg b.w. (5 to 10 drops / kg b.w.) daily. Babies and young children can be given the drug undiluted or mixed with a drink.
