Active ingredients

Free radicals

Free radicals are molecules that are formed during cell metabolism. Excess free radicals can be toxic and cause damage to the structure of lipids, proteins and DNA, which leads to deterioration of cell function. Under normal physiological conditions, the formation of free radicals is suppressed by the body's defense system, in which antioxidants play an important role.

Antioxidant deficiency can occur in a person over the years (age characteristics), or in people with severe visual stress, as well as due to an unbalanced diet, stress, certain systemic diseases or eye diseases. In this case, it is advisable to include dietary supplements in the diet.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants protect cells from free radical damage, which accelerates aging and cell destruction. They help remove free radicals, thus protecting the retina and macula from aging.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E has antioxidant properties, contributes to: - protection of cell membranes; - protection of fatty acids from oxidation. Vitamin E is found in vegetable oils.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is involved in neutralizing free radicals. Vitamin C is required for the reduction of oxidized vitamin E (tocopherol radical). Vitamin C is found in fruits and vegetables.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is also called the "sunlight vitamin". It belongs to fat-soluble vitamins; it is formed in the body either by exposure to sunlight, or ingested with food. Calciferol is the only vitamin that acts in the body as a vitamin and as a hormone.

Vitamin D affects the exchange of calcium in the body, increases immunity, is involved in the regulation of blood pressure and heart function, an important component for eye health, especially in myopia, age-related eye diseases or diabetes mellitus.

Zinc

Zinc is a natural activator of over 200 enzymes. Zinc contributes to the maintenance of healthy vision. It acts as an antioxidant through complex mechanisms. Zinc is found in meat and fish.

Copper

Copper plays an important role in free radical scavenging. Copper is also required when taking dietary supplements containing zinc. Copper is found in organ meats, shellfish, dried fruits.

Selenium

Selenium is a cofactor of glutathione peroxidase, an antioxidant enzyme, and is the main element in the defense against free oxygen radicals. Selenium is found in fish, shellfish, eggs, garlic, mushrooms, meats, and cereals.

Lutein and Zeaxanthin

Lutein and zeaxanthin are two yellow pigments that are highly concentrated in the retina of the eye, in the macula, responsible for the functions of central vision and visual acuity. Lutein and zeaxanthin form a protective filter against harmful rays from the blue spectrum of sunlight. They also act as antioxidants, protecting the retina from oxidative damage. Lutein and zeaxanthin are abundant in some green vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, and lettuce.

OMEGA-3 essential fatty acids

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) are polyunsaturated fatty acids that are not produced in the human body and must therefore be obtained from food and dietary supplements. Omega-3 fatty acids are structural components of cell membranes. DHA is found abundantly in the nerves, brain, and photoreceptors of the eye. Omega-3 acids are abundant in oily fish such as tuna, salmon and herring.

Cultivated grape extract containing 5% resveratrol

Grapes are high in phenolic antioxidant compounds, including resveratrol. The positive effects of resveratrol on the cardiovascular system were found in the study of the "French paradox". Resveratrol is endowed with high antioxidant properties, has a vasoactive effect, inhibits the oxidation of low density lipoproteins, platelet aggregation and the synthesis of eicosanoids (inflammation molecules). Resveratrol is found in some fruits, especially grapes, and also in wine.

Recommendations for use

Nutrof® Forte can be recommended for dietary correction as an additional source of antioxidant vitamins and minerals, omega-3 essential fatty acids, macular pigments (lutein and zeaxanthin), resveratrol and vitamin D3 to maintain eye health, normal vision functions, and protect the organs of vision from oxidative damage.
