THEA
Laboratoires Thea is the crowning achievement of the family and industrial saga that began in the 19th century - the CHIBRET family saga. The history of the relationship with ophthalmology began with Paul CHIBRET (1844-1911), the great ancestor of the family, founder of the French Ophthalmology Society (SFO in 1883). Interest in ophthalmology was, as it often happens in life, a matter of chance. In 1870, while in Africa, Paul contracted bilateral retinitis. He then promised himself that if he regained his sight fully, he would devote his life to ophthalmology.
The history of the CHIBRET family is a success story of a company which, thanks to the passion for research and passion of its owners, has become one of the main players on the European ophthalmic market. Each successive generation made its mark in French and European ophthalmology.
The first laboratory was established in 1902 in Clermont-Ferrand, CHIBRET. At the core of his activity was a passion for developing and producing ophthalmic preparations. However, the real development of the company's activities took place after World War II with the development of the pharmaceutical industry.
In 1974, the Transphyto Research and Development Laboratory was established. The dissemination of the newest Thea products has been entrusted for many years to companies such as: Alcon, Allergan, Merc, CIBA Vision. In 1994, a decision was made to start distributing products under its own brand. The activities of Transphyto and Laboratoires Thea were combined, thus creating one of the most important pharmaceutical companies - Laboratoires Thea, which focuses exclusively on the issues of eye diseases. The company's headquarters are still located in Clermont-Ferrand, France. In 20 years, this small company has developed into a leading ophthalmic group. Currently, Thea ranks third among the companies in this industry in Europe, and modern products derived from the company's laboratories are now present on all continents
The company's development is based on the key role of innovation in almost every area of treatment, including: dry eye syndrome, allergies, glaucoma, eye and eyelid infections, according to the latest scientific reports, using modern technologies.
The company would not have achieved this success if it were not for the people. Thea has always attracted people with passion, including an interdisciplinary team of scientists: pharmacologists, toxicologists, ophthalmologists, pharmacists, chemists and other specialists, whose task was and is to follow the progress in the field of pathophysiology, biotechnology, genetics, modern technologies and the use of this knowledge in creating new generation products.
