Posterisan Forte suppositories are a high-potency proctological treatment specifically formulated for the rapid management of acute internal hemorrhoidal symptoms and severe inflammatory conditions of the rectum. By combining the immunomodulatory power of inactivated Escherichia coli bacterial lysates with the potent anti-inflammatory action of hydrocortisone, this medication provides a comprehensive approach to rectal health. It is designed to quickly suppress intense pain, swelling, and itching during flare-ups while simultaneously stimulating the local immune response to facilitate tissue repair. This dual-action German preparation is a gold standard for patients requiring fast-acting relief from debilitating anorectal discomfort when standard treatments are insufficient.
Each 2g suppository of Posterisan Forte contains:
Active Substances: 387.1 mg of a standardized suspension of bacterial culture (CSBC), containing at least 500 million inactivated Escherichia coli bacteria (including their cell wall components and metabolic products) and 5 mg of Hydrocortisone.
Preservative: 6.6 mg of Liquefied Phenol.
Excipients: Hard fat (adeps solidus), which acts as a base to ensure the active ingredients are distributed evenly across the rectal mucosa.
The efficacy of Posterisan Forte is derived from its synergistic biological and chemical mechanism:
Immediate Anti-Inflammatory Effect: Hydrocortisone, a corticosteroid, acts rapidly to reduce capillary permeability and inhibit the release of inflammatory mediators (prostaglandins and leukotrienes). This results in a swift reduction of edema (swelling), redness, and the intense burning sensation.
Local Immunomodulation: The bacterial lysates (E. coli) function as antigens that prime the local immune system. They stimulate the activity of macrophages and T-lymphocytes within the rectal lining.
Enhanced Defense: The preparation increases the production of Secretory Immunoglobulin A (sIgA), which strengthens the mucosal barrier against secondary bacterial infections.
Vascular Stabilization: It helps improve the tone of the hemorrhoidal plexus, reducing the tendency for congestion and minor bleeding.
Acute Internal Hemorrhoids: For episodes accompanied by severe inflammation, pain, and swelling.
Anal Pruritus: Relief of persistent and intense itching in the anal canal.
Anal Fissures: To reduce inflammation and pain in the acute phase of mucosal tears.
Proctitis: Supportive treatment for inflammatory processes of the rectal lining.
Post-Surgical Care: Management of post-operative inflammation following proctological procedures (under medical supervision).
Local Infections: Do not use if the area is affected by primary viral (herpes), fungal (candidiasis), or specific bacterial (tuberculosis, syphilis) infections.
Hypersensitivity: Known allergy to hydrocortisone, bacterial lysates, phenol, or the fat base.
Pregnancy: Strictly contraindicated during the first trimester.
Vaccination: Avoid use in the presence of post-vaccination reactions in the treated area.
Posterisan Forte suppositories are for rectal use only.
Acute Phase: Insert 1 suppository into the rectum 2 to 3 times daily (ideally in the morning, evening, and after a bowel movement).
Maintenance: As symptoms improve, the frequency can be reduced to once daily.
To achieve the best results, the anal area should be cleaned and dried thoroughly before insertion. Because this product contains a steroid, the duration of treatment should be kept as short as possible, generally not exceeding 7 to 10 days. If long-term management is needed, a transition to regular Posterisan (without hydrocortisone) is typically recommended.
Posterisan Forte is generally well-tolerated when used short-term. Possible side effects include:
Local Irritation: Transient stinging or burning shortly after insertion.
Allergic Reactions: Rare cases of contact dermatitis or skin rash.
Corticosteroid Effects: If used for more than 2-3 weeks, there is a risk of mucosal atrophy (thinning of the tissue), secondary infections, or telangiectasia.
Pregnancy and Lactation: Use during the second and third trimesters only if the potential benefit justifies the risk. Consult a doctor before use during breastfeeding.
Diagnosis: If symptoms do not improve within 5-7 days, a proctological examination is required to rule out more serious underlying conditions.
Latex Safety: The hard fat base can reduce the strength of latex condoms; avoid simultaneous use.
Athletes: Hydrocortisone may lead to positive results in doping tests.
Store in a dry place at a temperature not exceeding 25°C.
Do not freeze, as extreme cold can alter the structure of the suppository.
Shelf Life: 3 years.
Keep out of reach of children.
