Clopixol (Zuclopenthixolum, Zuclopenthixole, Klopiksol) - antipsychotic (neuroleptic), thioxanthene derivative.

Antipsychotic effect of neuroleptics is usually associated with the blockade of dopamine receptors that appear to cause a chain reaction in which the involved mediator systems and others.

Clopixol has a pronounced antipsychotic and specific inhibitory effect. Clopixol may cause a transient, dose-dependent sedation. The rapid development of sedation at the beginning of therapy (until the antipsychotic action) is advantageous in the treatment of acute and subacute psychoses. Tolerance to the unspecific sedative effect of the preparation occurs rapidly. The specific inhibitory effect Clopixol particularly beneficial in the treatment of patients with agitation, anxiety, hostility or aggressiveness.

Zuclopenthixol bioavailability when administered orally is about 44%. The maximum serum concentration achieved after 4 h. Side effects:

Preparation interactions:

Klopiksol may decrease the effectiveness of levodopa and other adrenergic agents, and the combination with metoclopramide and piperazine increases the risk of extrapyramidal symptoms.
