Indications

Taking ASA can reduce the risk of a blood clot forming and prevent subsequent heart attacks, strokes and cardiovascular disease. Abrea is also used to prevent blood clots from forming following heart surgery to dilate or unblock blood vessels.

Composition

 1 tablet contains: active substance: 75 mg of acetylsalicylic acid and excipients: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal anhydrous silica, potato starch, talc, triacetin, methacrylic acid, ethyl acrylate copolymer (1: 1), 30% dispersion, sodium dodecylsulfonate, polysorbate 80, polyvinyl alcohol (E1203), titanium dioxide (E171), macrogol 3350, talc, carmine (E120), sunset yellow (E110), aluminum lake.

Action

ASAP contains acetylsalicylic acid, which, in low doses, belongs to a group of medicines called anti-platelet agents. Platelets are small blood cells that cause a blood clot to form and are involved in thrombosis. When a blood clot forms in an artery, blood flow is stopped and oxygen supply is cut off. If this happens to the heart it may cause a heart attack or angina; and in the brain, it can cause a stroke.

Dosage

Adults: To prevent myocardial infarction, the recommended dose is 75-160 mg once a day. Prevention of stroke: The recommended dose is 75-325 mg once a day. Prevention of cardiovascular problems in patients with stabilized or unstable angina (a type of chest pain): The recommended dose is 75-160 mg once a day. To prevent blood clots from forming after certain cardiac surgery: the recommended dose is 75-160 mg once a day. Children and adolescents: Acetylsalicylic acid should not be given to children and adolescents under 16 years of age, unless advised by a doctor.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation. Do not use if you are allergic to other salicylates or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory preparations (NSAIDs). NSAIDs are often used to treat arthritis, rheumatism or pain; if you have ever had an asthma attack or swelling of certain parts of the body, such as the face, lips, throat or tongue (angioedema) after taking salicylates or NSAIDs; if you have or have ever had a stomach ulcer or duodenal ulcer or any type of bleeding, e.g. stroke; if you have ever had a blood clotting disorder; in severely impaired liver or kidney function; if you have severe heart problems causing shortness of breath and ankle swelling; during the third trimester of pregnancy; you must not use doses higher than 100 mg a day; if you are taking a preparation methotrexate (e.g. to treat cancer or rheumatoid arthritis) in a dose greater than 15 mg per week
