Product description
Powder for oral suspension "Augmentin ™" is used in the treatment of bacterial infections in adults and children caused by microorganisms sensitive to the preparation:
- acute bacterial sinusitis (confirmed);
- acute otitis media;
- confirmed exacerbation of chronic bronchitis;
- community-acquired pneumonia;
- cystitis;
- pyelonephritis;
- infections of the skin and soft tissues, including cellulite, animal bites, severe dentoalveolar abscesses with widespread cellulite;
- infections of bones and joints, including osteomyelitis.
Composition
5 ml of suspension contains (active ingredients):
- amoxicillin (in the form of amoxicillin trihydrate) - 200 mg;
- clavulanic acid (in the form of potassium clavulanate) - 28.5 mg.
- Excipients: xanthan gum, aspartame (E 951), succinic acid, anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, dry orange flavors (1 and 2), dry raspberry flavor, dry "Light syrup" flavor, silicon dioxide.
Contraindications
- hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation, to any antibacterial agents of the penicillin group;
- a history of severe hypersensitivity reactions (including anaphylaxis) associated with the use of other beta-lactam agents (including cephalosporins, carbapenems, or monobactams);
- a history of jaundice or liver dysfunction associated with the use of amoxicillin / clavulanate.
Mode of application
The preparation should be used according to official guidelines for antibiotic therapy and local antibiotic susceptibility data, if available. Sensitivity to amoxicillin / clavulanate differs from region to region and may change over time. If necessary, a determination of the sensitivity of the microorganism to the antibiotic should be carried out.
Doses of the preparation are prescribed by the doctor depending on the expected microorganisms and their sensitivity to antibacterial preparations, the severity of the disease and the location of the infection, age, body weight and kidney function of the patient.
If necessary, you should consider the possibility of using alternative forms of release of the preparation "Augmentin ™" (that is, providing high doses of amoxicillin and / or different ratios of the content of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid).
For children weighing <40 kg, this Augmentin ™ dosage form provides a maximum daily dose of 1000-2800 mg amoxicillin / 143-400 mg clavulanic acid when taken as recommended below. If an increased dose of amoxicillin is considered necessary, it is recommended to choose a different dosage form of the preparation "Augmentin ™" in order to avoid taking excessively high daily doses of clavulanic acid.
The duration of treatment is determined by the patient's clinical response to treatment. Some infections (such as osteomyelitis) require long-term treatment. Treatment should not continue for more than 14 days without revision.
Adults and children weighing ≥ 40 kg should use other forms of Augmentin ™.
Children weighing <40 kg
Recommended daily doses from 25 / 3.6 mg / kg body weight to 45 / 6.4 mg / kg body weight, divided into 2 doses.
For children weighing <40 kg, the preparation is prescribed in a maximum daily dose of 1000-2800 mg of amoxicillin / 143-400 mg of clavulanic acid when used as indicated below.

For the treatment of certain infections, such as otitis media and sinusitis, lower respiratory tract infections, daily doses of up to 70 mg / 10 mg / kg of body weight, divided into 2 doses, can be used for children from 2 years of age.
If you need to prescribe large doses of amoxicillin for treatment, you should use other forms of the preparation "Augmentin ™" to avoid the appointment of unnecessary high doses of clavulanic acid.
Method of use
Augmentin ™ is intended for oral administration.
The preparation should be taken with meals to minimize potential gastrointestinal intolerance.
You can start treatment with parenteral administration of the preparation, and continue with the form of the preparation for oral administration.
Instructions for preparing a suspension. The powder contained in the vial should be diluted to form a suspension:
Check the vial cap for preliminary opening.
Turn over and shake the vial to loosen the powder in it.
Pour boiled water into a bottle of powder to the lower level indicated by a red line with an arrow.
Close the lid and shake the bottle until a suspension forms.
Add the rest of the water to the upper level indicated by the black arrow line and shake again.
The suspension should be allowed to stand for 5 minutes until the powder is completely dispersed.
Shake the suspension thoroughly before each use.
To accurately measure the dose of the preparation, use a measuring cap or measuring spoon or measuring syringe, which must be rinsed with water after each use.

Reproductive studies on animals of oral and parenteral forms of the preparation "Augmentin ™" did not reveal any teratogenic effect. One study in women with premature rupture of the membranes of the fetus reported that prophylactic use of Augmentin ™ may be associated with an increased risk of necrotizing enterocolitis in newborns. As with the use of other preparations, the use of the preparation should be avoided during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, unless, in the opinion of the doctor, such use is necessary.
Both active components of the preparation are excreted in breast milk (there is no information on the effect of clavulanic acid on a breastfed infant). Accordingly, a breastfed infant may develop diarrhea and a fungal infection of the mucous membranes, so breastfeeding should be discontinued. The possibility of allergic reactions should be taken into account. "Augmentin ™" during breastfeeding can be used only when, in the opinion of the doctor, the benefits of the use outweigh the risks.
Drivers
Studies on the ability of the preparation to influence the reaction rate when driving vehicles and working with mechanisms have not been carried out. However, undesirable effects (such as allergic reactions, dizziness, convulsions) may occur, which may affect the ability to drive and operate other mechanisms.
Overdose
Symptoms
Symptoms of gastrointestinal upset and fluid and electrolyte imbalance may occur. Crystalluria was observed associated with the intake of amoxicillin, which in some cases led to the development of renal failure.
In patients with impaired renal function and in patients taking high doses of the preparation, seizures may occur.
Amoxicillin sediments have been reported in bladder catheters, predominantly after high-dose administration. The patency of the catheters should be checked regularly.
Treatment
Gastrointestinal disorders can be treated symptomatically by paying attention to fluid / electrolyte balance. Amoxicillin / clavulanic acid can be removed from the bloodstream by hemodialysis.
Side effects
The most commonly reported adverse preparationreactions (ADs) were diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
Storage conditions
Store original packaging at temperatures below 25 ° C in a dry place.
Store the prepared suspension in a refrigerator at a temperature of 2 ° C to 8 ° C for 7 days. Keep out of the reach of children.
