Product description

Calcium-Sandoz Forte 500mg is a source of calcium, which is an essential mineral that plays an important role in the proper functioning of the nerves, muscles and heart. Calcium is the basic building material of teeth and bones. Calcium-Sandoz Forte in the form of effervescent tablets, after dissolving in water, is used as an oral fluid.

Indications

It is indicated for the prevention and treatment of calcium deficiency and can be used together with other medicines to prevent and treat a condition called osteoporosis (weakening of the bones).

It can also be used together with vitamin D3 to treat rickets (softening of growing bones in children) and osteomalacia (softening of bones in adults).

Composition

1 tablet contains:

• active substances: 1132 mg of calcium lactogluconate and 875 mg of calcium carbonate,
• excipients: citric acid anhydrous, orange flavor [contains: benzyl alcohol, glucose, sorbitol (E 420) and sulfur dioxide (E 220)], aspartame (E 951), macrogol 6000 and sodium bicarbonate.

Dosage

Adults: one effervescent tablet (one dose) once, twice or three times a day (corresponding to 500-1500 mg of calcium),

Children: one effervescent tablet (one dose) once or twice a day (corresponding to 500-1000 mg calcium),

The effervescent tablet should be dissolved in a glass of water (about 200 ml) and drunk immediately after dissolving,

The tablet should not be swallowed or chewed.

The preparation can be taken with or without food.

Contraindications

If you have:

• Allergy (hypersensitivity) to calcium or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.
• Increased amount of calcium in the blood (hypercalcaemia).
• Increased amount of calcium in the urine (hypercalciuria).
• Kidney problems including: kidney stones (nephrolithiasis) and calcium build-up in the tissues of the kidneys (kidney calcification).

Storage

Keep the preparation out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use after the expiry date.

The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

Store in a tightly closed container and original packaging.

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste.

Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer needed. Such behavior will help to protect the environment.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Calcium Sandoz Forte can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

If any of these allergic symptoms occur, stop taking the medicine and see a doctor immediately.

Very rare (affects less than 1 in 10,000 people):

• severe allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue and / or throat that may cause difficulty in swallowing.

Rare (affects less than 1 in 1,000 people):

• nausea,
• diarrhea,
• stomach pain,
• constipation,
• flatulence
• vomiting,
• itching
• redness and/or burning sensation of the skin.

Uncommon (affects less than 1 in 100 people):

• high levels of calcium in the blood (hypercalcemia),
• increased excretion of calcium in the urine (hypercalciuria).

Interactions

Please tell your doctor about all medicines you are taking recently, even those sold without a prescription.

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

If there is no improvement or the patient feels worse, see a doctor.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Calcium-Sandoz Forte can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding in case of calcium deficiency. The recommended daily intake of calcium (including food and supplements) for pregnant and lactating women is 1000-1300 mg. During pregnancy and lactation, the daily dose of calcium should not exceed 1500 mg.

Calcium passes into breast milk, but it does not cause any side effects in a breastfed baby.

Driving and operating machinery

Calcium-Sandoz Forte has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Taking the preparation with food and drink

The preparation should not be taken within 2 hours of eating foods rich in oxalic and phytic acid, such as spinach, rhubarb and whole grains.

Warnings and Precautions

If you have kidney disease, take the preparation only after consulting your doctor, especially if you are taking medicines containing aluminum,

Medicines containing vitamin D should not be used simultaneously with CALCIUM-SANDOZ Forte without the doctor's recommendation.

The preparation should not be taken within 2 hours of eating foods rich in oxalic and phytic acid, such as spinach, rhubarb and whole grains.
