Cholestol is an additional source of phytosterols for correcting cholesterol levels.

Cholestol components exhibit hypolipidemic, antioxidant and detoxifying effects, which helps to normalize the level of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) in the blood, slows down the progression of atherosclerosis, and reduces fatty liver infiltration.

Plant sterols are the main component of Cholestol. The hypocholesterolemic effect of phytosterols is due, first, to the similarity of the chemical structure of cholesterol and phytosterols, due to which the latter act on the principle of antimetabolites and displace cholesterol when interacting with LDL in plasma. Secondly, phytosterols form stable complexes with exogenous cholesterol, which suppresses its absorption and reduces its entry into liver cells. This stimulates hepatocytes to synthesize endogenous cholesterol and increases their absorption of LDL cholesterol. In general, this leads to a decrease in the level of total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol by 10-15%.

Policosanol is a mixture of higher fatty alcohols derived from sugar cane wax. Policosanol enhances the hypocholesterolemic effect of phytosterols, increases the level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, prevents the development of atherosclerotic changes, helps to reduce platelet aggregation, and has a pronounced antioxidant effect. Policosanol lowers the level of total cholesterol and its fractions by suppressing the conversion of active acetate to mevalonic acid at the initial stage of cholesterol biosynthesis. Policosanol has no direct effect on the inhibition of the main enzyme of this stage - HMG-CoA reductase. Stimulates the breakdown of LDL cholesterol in hepatocytes through the activation of lipases.

L-methionine is an essential amino acid, with the participation of which transmethylation reactions take place in the body.
