Product description

Contrahist Allergy is an antiallergic preparation for use in adults, adolescents and children over 6 years of age in the course of:

• allergic rhinitis, including chronic rhinitis,
• chronic idiopathic urticaria.

The active substance of the preparation is levocetirizine in the form of dihydrochloride, which is antiallergic: it inhibits skin reactions, including rash, urticaria, and reduces the permeability of the mucous membranes, including the nasal mucosa. The preparation penetrates to the central nervous system to a small extent and usually does not have a sedative effect and does not cause drowsiness, therefore it is classified as a second-generation antihistamine. It is used to treat both chronic and seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever), chronic idiopathic urticaria. Levocetirizine improves the quality of life of people suffering from perennial allergic rhinitis.

Indications

Symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis (including chronic rhinitis) and chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults, adolescents and children over 6 years of age.

Composition

1 film-coated tablet contains:

• active substance: levocetirizine hydrochloride 5 mg, corresponding to levocetirizine 4.2 mg,
• excipients: microcrystalline cellulose (type 102), lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, titanium dioxide (E 171), macrogol 400.

Action

Antiallergic.

Dosage

Adults and children from 6 years of age: 1 tablet (5 mg) daily.

Swallow the tablet whole with a drink of water.

The preparation can be taken with or without food.

Do not take a double dose to make up for the forgotten dose. If there is no improvement or the patient feels worse after 3 days from starting the preparation, a doctor should be consulted. The preparation should not be used for more than 10 days without consulting a doctor. In patients with hepatic impairment, dose reduction is usually not necessary. Patients with impaired renal function should consult their doctor about the possible need to reduce the dose of the preparation. Contrahist Allergy tablets are not recommended for children under 6 years of age.

Contraindications

Allergy (hypersensitivity) to levocetirizine dihydrochloride, an antiallergic preparation or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.

Severe renal impairment (severe renal failure with a creatinine clearance less than 10 ml / min).

Hereditary galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption.

Storage

Keep the preparation out of the sight and reach of children, at a temperature below 25 ° C.

Side effects

Contrahist Allergy, like any other preparation, can cause side effects, but not everyone may experience them.

Symptoms of hypersensitivity:

• swelling of the lips, tongue, face and / or throat
• difficulty breathing or swallowing and hives
• angioedema
• a sudden drop in blood pressure, leading to collapse or shock, which may be fatal.

Common (less than 1 in 10 but more than 1 in 100 patients):

• dry mouth
• headaches,
• fatigue and somnolence, which are usually mild to moderate.

Uncommon (less than 1 in 100 but more than 1 in 1,000 patients):

• feeling exhausted
• stomach pain.

Rare (less than 1 in 10,000 patients) or not known:

• palpitations,
• seizures, tingling, dizziness, fainting, tremors, altered taste, sensation of spinning or rocking
• visual disturbances, blurred vision, rotational eye movements (uncontrolled circular movement of the eyes),
• painful or difficult urination, inability to completely empty the bladder,
• swelling, itching, rash, hives (swelling, redness and itching of the skin), skin eruptions,
• dyspnoea,
• weight gain
• muscle aches,
• aggressive agitation or behavior, insomnia, recurrent thoughts of suicide or an interest in suicide
• hepatitis, liver function test abnormalities, increased appetite and nausea.

 In the event of the first symptoms of overdose, discontinue use of the preparation immediately and consult a doctor.

Interactions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the preparations you are taking, have recently taken or are taking.

In susceptible patients, the use of alcohol while taking levocetirizine may affect the function of the central nervous system. It is advisable to exercise caution when taking Contrahist Allergy and alcohol at the same time.

Warnings and Precautions

In the event of taking a dose significantly exceeding the recommended dose, immediately consult a doctor. The symptoms of overdose in adults may be somnolence, and children may initially develop agitation and restlessness, including restlessness, followed by somnolence.

Before using the preparation in a patient with impaired renal function, you should consult your doctor about the dose of the preparation.

It is recommended that you stop taking Contrahist Allergy 3 days before skin allergy tests, as the preparation may affect the results.

The preparation is not recommended for use in children under 6 years of age due to the inability to adjust the appropriate dose of this form of the preparation.

Before using the preparation during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and if the patient thinks that she may be pregnant or is planning a baby, consult a doctor.

If you need to drive a vehicle or use machines, you should know how you react to the medicine in advance, as in some patients it may cause drowsiness, fatigue and weakness. Tests carried out with the use of levocetirizine at the recommended dose in healthy volunteers showed no effect on mental alertness, speed of reaction and driving ability.

Contrahist Allergy contains lactose: if you have an intolerance to some sugars, consult your doctor before taking the preparation.
