Daktarin, medicinal powder is indicated for topical application to the skin in the treatment of fungal infections such as tinea pedis (athlete's foot) and ringworm of the groin. Daktarin is a medicinal powder to be sprayed onto the skin. It contains miconazole - an active substance with a wide range of antifungal activity that can be used to fight dermatophytes and yeasts. Miconazole also has an antibacterial effect on gram-positive rods and cocci. It is also used in the treatment of secondarily infected mycoses. It soothes the itching that often accompanies fungal infections. The itching resolves before other signs of recovery appear.

Indications

Daktarin medicated skin spray powder is indicated, usually in combination with Daktarin cream, for the treatment of:

• interdigital mycosis ("athlete's foot"),
• ringworm of the groin.

Daktarin, a medicated skin spray powder, can also be used preventively inside shoes and socks.

Composition

1g of powder contains:

• active ingredient: 20 mg of miconazole nitrate.
• excipients: talc, hectorite stearalkonate, sorbitan sesquioleate, ethanol, propellant.

Action

Daktarin medicated skin spray powder contains the active substance miconazole. Miconazole has antifungal properties, inter alia, against dermatophytes and yeasts, and antibacterial against gram-positive rods and cocci. Miconazole is also used in the treatment of secondarily infected mycoses.

Miconazole usually reduces the itching of the skin that is often associated with infections caused by dermatophytes and yeasts. The itching resolves before other signs of recovery appear.

Dosage

Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Daktarin, a medicated skin spray powder, is applied to the affected areas of the skin, usually twice a day. Shake well before use.

When Daktarin medicinal powder for skin spray is used simultaneously with Daktarin cream, it is recommended to use both forms of the preparation once a day.

Daktarin, a medicated skin spray powder, is used as a preventive measure once a day inside shoes and socks.

The duration of treatment is 2 to 6 weeks depending on the location and severity of the lesions.

Treatment should be continued for at least 1 week after all symptoms and lesions have resolved.

If you have the impression that the effect of the preparation is too strong or too weak, consult your doctor.

Contraindications

Daktarin should not be used:

• if you are allergic to miconazole, other similar antifungal preparations or other ingredients of this preparation,
• in the treatment of fungal infections of the scalp, mucous membranes, nails and wounded skin.

Storage

Keep the preparation  out of the sight and reach of children.

Store between 15 ° C and 25 ° C in a cool, dry place.

Protect against direct sunlight and temperature.

The product is extremely flammable.

Pressurized container: may burst if heated. Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources.

No smoking.

Do not spray over an open flame or other ignition source.

Do not pierce or burn, even after use. Do not expose to temperatures exceeding 50 ° C.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very rarely (affecting up to 1 in 10,000 patients), reports have been reported:

• hypersensitivity reactions, including severe anaphylactic reactions and angioedema
• hives
• contact dermatitis,
• rash
• erythema,
• itching
• skin infection,
• light spots on the skin,
• a burning sensation on the skin,
• disorders at the injection site, including irritation, burning, itching or a feeling of warmth at the site of application of Daktarin, medicated powder to be sprayed on the skin.

Interactions

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including those obtained without a prescription.

Monitoring of the anticoagulant effect is necessary in patients taking oral anticoagulants such as warfarin. The effects and side effects of some other medicines (e.g. oral blood sugar-lowering preparations and phenytoin) may be increased when taken together with Daktarin, a medicated skin spray powder. Caution should be exercised when taking other preparations concomitantly.

Warnings and Precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Daktarin medicated skin spray powder.

In the event of skin sensitization or irritation, treatment should be discontinued and a physician consulted.

Avoid contact of Daktarin medicated skin spray with the eyes.

Daktarin medicated skin spray powder contains talc. Avoid inhaling the powder to prevent irritation of the respiratory tract. For this reason, the preparation should be used with particular care when treating infants and children.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

The physician should weigh the potential risks associated with the use of the preparation against the expected therapeutic benefits. It has not been established whether the active substance of the preparation - miconazole, passes into breast milk. For this reason, in breast-feeding women, Daktarin medicinal powder for skin spray should only be used under the doctor's prescription.

Driving vehicles and operating machinery

The preparation has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
