Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics. As a bactericidal and fungistatic agent, dequalinium chloride affects microorganisms that cause mixed infections of the mouth and throat. The spectrum of action of this topical chemotherapeutic agent is wide and includes most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as fungi, spirochetes and pathogens that cause mixed infections of the oral cavity and throat. The accumulation of dibucaine hydrochloride in the body reduces the severity of pain symptoms accompanying infections of the oral cavity and throat. microorganisms resistant to dequalinium chloride are unknown. does not cause caries formation.

Pharmacokinetics. The main active ingredient is absorbed in very small quantities.

Indications

Local treatment for acute inflammatory diseases of the mouth and throat: gingivitis, ulcerative and aphthous stomatitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis and pharyngitis. Dekvadol is also recommended if you have bad breath.

Dekvadol can be used in cases of mixed infection of the mouth and throat (as recommended by a doctor); as an adjunct drug for catarrhal angina, lacunar angina and sore throat Plaut-Vincent; in the case of candidiasis of the oral cavity and pharynx.

Recommended for use in the postoperative period after tonsillectomy and tooth extraction.

Application

Adults and children over the age of 12

Apply 1 tablet every 2 hours, after reducing the severity of symptoms of inflammation - 1 tablet every 4 hours.

Children over 4 years of age

Apply 1 tablet every 3 hours, after reducing the severity of symptoms of inflammation - 1 tablet every 4 hours.

The maximum daily dose is 10–12 tablets during the acute phase and 6 tablets after the inflammatory symptoms have disappeared.

The tablets should be dissolved slowly without chewing. The duration of the course of treatment is determined by the doctor individually. The patient should consult a doctor if symptoms have not disappeared or worsened after 5 days of drug treatment.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any of the substances that make up the drug. allergy to quaternary ammonium compounds (eg benzalkonium chloride).

Side effects

Sometimes, hypersensitivity reactions are possible after using the drug, for example, rash, itching, burning sensation, irritation of the mucous membrane of the mouth and throat. in rare cases, namely with abuse, ulcers and necrosis may occur. in case of any unusual reactions, you should stop using the drug and be sure to consult your doctor regarding further therapy.

Special instructions

Since the drug does not contain sugar, it can be used in patients with diabetes mellitus. the drug contains sorbitol, so it should not be used by people with rare hereditary diseases, such as fructose intolerance syndrome. use with caution in patients with low plasma cholinesterase levels.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Pregnancy. No controlled studies have been conducted. The drug during pregnancy can be used after consulting a doctor if the therapeutic effect outweighs the possible risk to the fetus.

Breastfeeding period. Clinical studies on the penetration of active substances into breast milk have not been carried out. The drug is not recommended for use during breastfeeding.

Children. The drug in this dosage form is not prescribed for children under the age of 4 years.

The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving or working with other mechanisms. Studies on the effect of the drug on the ability to drive vehicles or work with other mechanisms have not been carried out. However, the likelihood that the drug may have any adverse effect in this regard is very low.

Interactions

The antibacterial activity of dequalinium is reduced when used simultaneously with anionic tensides, such as toothpaste. the use of the drug should not be combined with the intake of cholinesterase inhibitors.
