Pharmacological properties

B vitamins (b1, b2, b6, pantothenic acid and nicotinamide) are involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats, they are also important for the functioning of the nervous system. vitamin a is necessary for the development of epithelial cells and the synthesis of visual pigment. Vitamin D regulates calcium absorption and promotes proper mineralization of bones and teeth. vitamin C controls the absorption of iron and takes part in redox processes in the body. vitamin e, a physiological antioxidant, protects cell membranes from damage and maintains their functionality.

Minerals and oligoelements are very important for the body. They are tissue constituents or activators and constituents of enzymes and hormones. Calcium and phosphorus, which are part of the Duovit preparation, are the main mineral components of bone tissue and teeth. Calcium ions activate many enzymes, are involved in the regulation of the tone of the heart muscle, the transmission of nerve impulses and regulate the permeability of cell membranes. Iron and copper, along with B vitamins, are essential for erythropoiesis. Magnesium, manganese, zinc and molybdenum are part of most enzymes that catalyze the most important biochemical reactions in the body.

Water-soluble vitamins (B vitamins, vitamin C and biotin) are very well absorbed within the daily requirement. Amounts that exceed tissue absorption are excreted in the urine, in some cases also in the feces.

After oral administration, fat-soluble vitamins A and D are well absorbed in the small intestine in the presence of fats. Absorption of vitamin E is relatively low (25–85% of the dose). These vitamins accumulate in large quantities in the liver and are therefore more toxic than water-soluble vitamins.

Indications

Duovit film-coated tablets are recommended for:

• physical and mental overload (while studying, at work or at home);
• doing active sports and outdoor activities;
• insufficient food intake (elderly people, smokers and patients with alcoholism);
• irregular and monotonous diet (mainly instant food, dry food);
• adherence to a diet for weight loss (with a decrease in body weight, diabetes, etc.);
• during pregnancy and lactation;
• during the period of seasonal shortage of fruits and vegetables in the diet;
• with a significant loss of minerals (due to vomiting, diarrhea, profuse menstrual blood loss, increased sweating).

Application

Adults and children over the age of 10 are advised to take 1 tablet of red duovit with vitamins and 1 tablet of blue duovit with minerals once a day. tablets are taken after breakfast, whole without chewing, with some liquid. the duration of treatment is determined by the doctor individually.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation, hypervitaminosis a, e and d, renal failure. nephrolithiasis, gout, hyperuricemia, erythremia, erythrocytosis, thrombophlebitis, thromboembolism, fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome, malabsorption of iron or copper, hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, thyrotoxicosis, chronic gomerulonephritis, chronic gomerulonephritis duodenal ulcer (due to a possible increase in gastric acidity), active forms of tuberculosis. children under 10 years of age.

Side effects

With prolonged use in high doses, the following side effects occur:

On the part of the kidneys and bladder: impaired renal function.

Laboratory indicators: transient increase in the activity of AsAT, LDH, ALP.

Special instructions

Duovit is taken after a meal, otherwise there may be discomfort in the stomach.

Patients with diabetes mellitus can use Duovit, but they should take into account that the daily dose contains 1.6 g of sugar. Each coated tablet contains 0.8 g of sugar.

It is prescribed with caution in case of liver lesions, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum in history, patients with acute nephritis, with decompensation of cardiac activity, cholelithiasis, chronic pancreatitis, allergic diseases, idiosyncrasy, patients with diabetes mellitus, patients with neoplasms.

Women taking high doses of retinol (10,000 IU) can plan pregnancy no earlier than 6–12 months. This is due to the fact that during this period there is a risk of abnormal development of the fetus under the influence of the high content of vitamin A in the body. The color of urine in yellow is possible, which is completely harmless and is explained by the presence of riboflavin in the preparation.

The preparation is not recommended to be prescribed simultaneously with other multivitamins, since the latter can be overdose in the body.

Special precautions for inactive ingredients. Duovit contains lactose, sorbitol, glucose and sucrose. Patients with rare hereditary forms of fructose or galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrose-isomaltase deficiency should not take this preparation. E124 and E110 azo dyes can cause allergic reactions.

During pregnancy and lactation, vitamins and minerals can only be taken as directed by a doctor.

The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving and working with other mechanisms. There are no reports that the preparation affects the ability to drive vehicles and work with other mechanisms.

Children. Duovit is not recommended for children under the age of 10.

Interactions

It is not recommended to use the preparation simultaneously with tetracyclines and antacids, since this reduces the absorption of minerals and tetracyclines. some antacids reduce the absorption of minerals. if it is necessary to take such preparations at the same time, then the interval between the use of duovit tablets and tetracycline or an antacid agent should be at least 3 hours.

Due to the possible occurrence of hypervitaminosis A, the simultaneous use of Duovit with other preparations containing vitamin A or oral retinoids is not recommended.

Vitamin E should be avoided when using oral anticoagulants due to increased bleeding tendency.

Vitamin C in high doses should not be taken during sulfonamide therapy to prevent crystalluria.

Pyridoxine attenuates the effect of levodopa if the patient is taking levodopa alone.

Riboflavin reduces the absorption and effectiveness of antibiotics. It should be taken at least 3 hours before or 3 hours after taking the antibiotic.

Overdose

No intoxication is expected at the recommended dosage. long-term, use in high doses can cause hypervitaminosis a and d, although the likelihood of an overdose is minimal. with an overdose of vitamin D, weakness, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, fever, convulsions occur. An overdose of vitamin A can lead to headaches, dizziness, sleep disturbances, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, photophobia, and seizures. if the above symptoms occur, you should stop taking the preparation and immediately consult a doctor. high doses of vitamin e may cause headache, fatigue, nausea, diplopia, muscle weakness, mild creatinuria, and gastrointestinal disturbances.
