Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics. Hepabene is a combined herbal preparation containing an extract of medicinal smoke and dry extract of milk thistle fruit. the extract of the medicinal smoke contains the alkaloid fumarin, which has a choleretic effect, normalizes the secretion of bile, and reduces the tone of the sphincter of oddi.

Milk thistle fruit extract contains silymarin, a bioflavonoid containing isomers silibinin, silidianin and silicristin. Silymarin has a hepatoprotective effect in acute and chronic intoxications, exhibits membrane stabilizing properties and promotes the restoration of liver cells.

Pharmacokinetics. After oral administration, silymarin is mainly eliminated in the bile and is subject to enterohepatic circulation.

Indications

Treatment of patients with biliary dyskinesia (including after cholecystectomy) and concomitant chronic liver diseases.

Application

Hepabene capsules are taken after meals. the capsule should be swallowed whole, without chewing, and washed down with a sufficient amount of liquid.

Adults are recommended to take the preparation Hepabene 1 capsule 3 times a day.

For night pain, an additional intake of 1 capsule at bedtime is recommended. If necessary, the daily dose of the preparation is increased to a maximum of 6 capsules (2 capsules 3 times a day).

The course of treatment is determined by the doctor individually, depending on the nature and course of the disease.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to active substances or other plants from the Asteraceae family or to any of the components of the preparation; acute inflammatory diseases of the liver and biliary tract; acute hepatitis and cholangitis; acute poisoning of various etiologies; cholelithiasis; obstruction of the biliary tract.

Side effects

From the digestive system: nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, heartburn, diarrhea;

• from the urinary system: increased urine output;
• from the immune system: allergic reactions (including skin rash, itching, shortness of breath);
• vascular disorders: hot flashes;
• on the part of the skin and subcutaneous tissue: increased alopecia;
• others: an increase in the severity of existing vestibular disorders.

Special instructions

In elderly patients, dose adjustment is not required.

In view of the possible estrogen-like effect of silymarin in maximum high doses, it should be used with caution in patients with hormonal disorders (endometriosis, uterine myoma, breast, ovarian and uterine carcinoma, prostate carcinoma). In these cases, consultation with a doctor is required.

If jaundice develops, it is necessary to consult a doctor for correction of therapy.

Use during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended.

Children. There is no clinical experience with the application.

Interactions

With the simultaneous administration of preparations containing silymarin and oral contraceptives or preparations used for estrogen replacement therapy, the effectiveness of the latter may decrease. the preparation can enhance the effects of preparations such as diazepam, alprazolam, ketoconazole, lovastatin, vinblastine, fexofenadine, clopidogrel, warfarin by inhibiting the cytochrome p450 system.

Overdose
