Product description
Ibuvit D3 4000 IU is a preparation in which the active substance is cholecalciferol, which is the same as vitamin D produced in the human body. Vitamin D is produced in the body when the skin is exposed to sunlight. It works to increase calcium absorption and reduce its excretion by the kidneys, thus supporting bone building.
Indications
Ibuvit D3 4,000 IU is used:
- in the prevention of vitamin D deficiency,
- in people with obesity in conditions resulting from vitamin D deficiency.
Composition
1 capsule contains:
- active substance: cholecalciferol 100 micrograms, equivalent to 4000 IU of vitamin D,
- the other ingredients are: capsule contents: refined safflower oil, capsule shell composition: gelatin, glycerol, purified water, medium chain fatty acid triglycerides.
Action
Prevention of vitamin D3 deficiency.
Dosage
Always take the medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Adults: 1 capsule a day, in the months from October to April or throughout the year, if effective skin synthesis of vitamin D is not ensured in the summer months.
Swallow the capsules whole with a drink of water, preferably with your main meal.
Contraindications
Do not take Ibuvit D3 4000 IU if you are allergic to cholecalciferol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Do not use this medicine if you have elevated levels of calcium in the blood (hypercalcaemia) or in the urine (hypercalciuria).
Do not use this medicine if you have severe kidney failure, kidney stones (kidney stones) or have a tendency to form kidney stones.
Do not use if you have elevated levels of vitamin D in the blood (vitamin D hypervitaminosis).
Do not use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age and in pregnant patients.
Storage
Keep the preparation out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not store above 30ºC.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. You should see your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms of angioedema such as swollen face, tongue or throat, difficulty swallowing, hives and difficulty breathing.
Uncommon (affects less than 1 in 100 patients):
- high levels of calcium in the blood
- high levels of calcium in the urine.
Rare (occurs in less than 1 in 1,000 patients):
- rash,
- itching
- hives.
Not known (cannot be estimated from the available data):
- constipation
- gases,
- nausea,
- abdominal pain,
- diarrhea.
Interactions
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, or have recently taken, and about any medicines you plan to take, especially if they are:
- preparations affecting the heart or kidneys, such as cardiac glycosides or thiazide diuretics, as the simultaneous use with vitamin D may cause a significant increase in calcium levels in the blood and urine,
- medications containing vitamin D, calcitriol or other metabolites and analogues of vitamin D, as well as foods rich in vitamin D,
- actinomycin (a medicine used to treat certain forms of cancer) and imidazole antifungals
- anti-epileptic preparations (anticonvulsants)
- barbiturates (sleeping pills, antiepileptics),
- antacids containing magnesium or aluminum (for heartburn and indigestion)
- medicines for hypercalcaemia (high levels of calcium in the blood) such as calcitonin, etidronate, pamidronate,
- certain laxatives (such as paraffin oil)
- preparations used in the treatment of obesity, reducing the absorption of fats,
- glucocorticosteroids (steroid hormones such as hydrocortisone or prednisolone),
- medicines to lower cholesterol in the blood (such as cholestyramine or colestipol)
- preparations for the treatment of tuberculosis.
Warnings and Precautions
In the period of high exposure to sunlight in the summer months (May to September), it is recommended to periodically refrain from taking vitamin D.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Ibuvit D3 4000 IU:
- if you are taking certain medications for heart disease
- if you have sarcoidosis (an immune system disease that can increase the amount of vitamin D in your body)
- if you are taking other medications containing vitamin D or eating foods rich in vitamin D, as additional doses of vitamin D may only be taken under medical supervision,
- if you are taking extra doses of calcium
- if there is a possibility that you will be exposed to a large amount of sunlight while taking Ibuvit D3 4,000 IU,
- if you have damaged or diseased kidneys
- if treatment with vitamin D is prolonged, as in this case your doctor should monitor your serum and urine calcium levels and check your kidney function by measuring blood creatinine.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding:
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
