Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics. As a bactericidal and fungistatic substance, dequalinium chloride affects microorganisms that cause mixed infections of the oral cavity and throat. the spectrum of action of this local chemotherapeutic agent is wide and includes most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as fungi, spirochetes and pathogens that cause mixed infections of the mouth and throat. the accumulation of dibucaine hydrochloride in the body relieves the pain symptom accompanying infections of the mouth and throat.

Microorganisms resistant to dequalinium chloride are unknown.

Does not cause caries formation.

Pharmacokinetics. The main active ingredient is absorbed in very small quantities.

Indications

Local treatment of acute inflammatory diseases of the mouth and throat: gingivitis, ulcerative and aphthous stomatitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis and pharyngitis. Laritylene is also recommended for those with bad breath.

Larithylene can be used in cases of mixed infection of the mouth and throat (as recommended by a doctor); as an auxiliary preparation in the treatment of catarrhal sore throat, lacunar sore throat and sore throat Plaut-Vincent; in the case of candidiasis of the oral cavity and pharynx.

Recommended in the postoperative period after tonsillectomy and tooth extraction.

Application

Adults and children over the age of 12. appoint 1 tablet every 2 hours, after reducing the severity of symptoms of inflammation - 1 tablet every 4 hours.

Children over the age of 4. Prescribe 1 tablet every 3 hours, after reducing the severity of symptoms of inflammation - 1 tablet every 4 hours.

The maximum daily dose is 10–12 tablets during the acute phase and 6 tablets per day after the disappearance of inflammatory symptoms.

The tablets should be dissolved slowly without chewing. The duration of the course of treatment is determined by the doctor individually. The patient should consult a doctor if symptoms have not disappeared or worsened after 5 days of preparation treatment.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any of the substances that make up the preparation. allergy to quaternary ammonium compounds (eg benzalkonium chloride).

Side effects

Sometimes hypersensitivity reactions may occur after using the preparation, for example, rash, itching, burning sensation, irritation of the mucous membrane of the mouth and throat. in rare cases, namely with abuse, ulcers and necrosis may occur. in case of any unusual reactions, you should stop using the preparation and be sure to consult your doctor regarding further therapy.

Special instructions

Since the preparation does not contain sugar, it is suitable for use in patients with diabetes mellitus.

The preparation contains sorbitol, so it should not be used in patients with rare hereditary diseases such as fructose intolerance syndrome. Use with caution in patients with low plasma cholinesterase levels.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Pregnancy. According to available data, no controlled studies have been conducted. In these circumstances, the preparation during pregnancy can be used after consulting a doctor if the therapeutic effect outweighs the possible risk to the fetus.

Breastfeeding period. According to available data, no clinical studies have been conducted on the penetration of active substances into breast milk. The preparation is not recommended for use during breastfeeding.

The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving vehicles or other mechanisms. According to available data, studies on the effect of the preparation on the ability to drive a car and work with mechanisms have not been conducted. However, the likelihood that the preparation may have any negative effect in this regard is very small.

Interactions

The antibacterial activity of dequalinium is reduced when used simultaneously with anionic tensides, for example, in the composition of toothpaste. the use of the preparation should not be combined with the use of cholinesterase inhibitors.

Overdose

In general, the preparation is well tolerated. in case of an overdose, nausea, vomiting are possible, in rare cases - ulcers and necrosis of the esophagus.

Treatment of an overdose is symptomatic, if necessary, you can use enveloping agents.

You should not induce vomiting and gastric lavage, these measures are not advisable.
