Product description

Levicitam 250 tablets are indicated as monotherapy (drug of first choice) in the treatment of partial seizures with or without secondary generalization in adults and adolescents aged 16 years and older who are first diagnosed with epilepsy.

As an adjunctive therapy for treatment:

• partial seizures with or without secondary generalization in adults and children over 1 month old with epilepsy;
• myoclonic seizures in adults and adolescents over 12 years old, patients with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy;
• primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures in adults and adolescents over 12 years old, patients with idiopathic generalized epilepsy.

Compound

Active substance: levetiracetam;

1 tablet contains levetiracetam 250 mg or 500 mg;

Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, copolyvidone, crospovidone, corn starch, magnesium stearate, coating for coating Opadry II White (polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl alcohol, talc, titanium dioxide (E 171)).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to levetiracetam or other pyrrolidone derivatives, as well as to any excipients of the drug.

Mode of application

The tablets should be taken by mouth with a sufficient amount of liquid, with or without food. When taken orally, levetiracetam may have a bitter taste. Divide the daily dose into 2 equal doses.

The drug in the form of tablets is not recommended for use in children under 6 years of age.

Overdose

In case of an overdose, drowsiness, agitation, aggression, respiratory depression, depression of consciousness, coma were observed.

In case of acute overdose, it is necessary to flush the stomach or induce vomiting. There is no specific antidote for levetiracetam. If necessary, carry out symptomatic treatment, including with the use of hemodialysis (60% of levetiracetam and 74% of the main metabolite are excreted).

Side effects

The most commonly reported adverse reactions were nasopharyngitis, drowsiness, headache, fatigue, and dizziness.

Interaction

In some cases, a decrease in the effectiveness of levetiracetam has been reported with the simultaneous use of an osmotic laxative macrogol with oral levetiracetam. Therefore, macrogol should not be taken orally within one hour before and within one hour after taking levetiracetam.

The degree of absorption of levetiracetam does not depend on food, but the absorption rate is somewhat reduced if taken with food. There is no data on the interaction of levetiracetam with alcohol.
