Pentasa rectal suspension is indicated for ulcerative proctosigmoiditis and left-sided colitis.

Active ingredient: mesalazine;

100 ml of suspension contain mesalazine 1 g;

Excipients: sodium edetate (trilon B) sodium metabisulfite (E 223) sodium acetate, trihydrate; concentrated hydrochloric acid; purified water.

Hypersensitivity to salicylates, the active substance or any of the excipients. Severe violations of the liver and / or kidneys.

Before using an enema, it is recommended to empty the intestines.

It can be used only when the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.

There is only limited clinical experience with an overdose of Pentasa, which does not indicate the presence of renal or hepatic toxicity. There is no specific antidote, treatment should be symptomatic and supportive. There have been reports of patients using daily doses of the preparation up to 8 g for a month without any side effects.

The most common adverse reactions observed during clinical studies were diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, headache, vomiting and rash.

Hypersensitivity reactions and preparation fever are sometimes observed.

After rectal administration, local reactions such as itching, rectal discomfort and urge to defecate are possible.

Simultaneous treatment with Pentasa and azathioprine, 6-mercaptopurine or thioguanine in studies led to an increase in the frequency of myelosuppressive effects; probably, there is an interaction between these preparations. The mechanism of this interaction has not been fully elucidated. It is recommended to regularly monitor the level of leukocytes and adjust the dose of thiopurine accordingly.
