Product description
Rivel is a gel medicine that acts as a disinfectant. The active substance contained in the preparation - ethacridine lactate has a strong antibacterial effect. At the same time, the gel soothes pain and inflammation. Rivel is indicated for topical use in the disinfection of the skin and mucous membranes, as well as for the adjunctive treatment of skin infections caused mainly by Gram-positive bacteria, including boils, multiple boils, abscesses and mixed dermatitis (bacterial and fungal). The gel can also be used to soothe after insect bites.
Indications
Decontamination of the skin and mucous membranes.
Supportive treatment of skin infections caused mainly by gram-positive bacteria (boils, multiple boils, abscesses) and mixed dermatitis (bacterial and fungal).
After insect bites.
Composition
1 g of gel contains:
active ingredient: ethacridine lactate 5 mg,
other ingredients: ethanol 96%, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, hydroxyethyl cellulose, propylene glycol, purified water.
Action
Antibacterial, disinfectant, soothing pain and inflammation.
Dosage
Adults and children over 2 years of age: apply a thin layer of the preparation to the affected skin or mucous membranes 2-3 times a day (more often if necessary).
The gel is intended only for local treatment and can be used under the dressing.
After using the medicine, wash your hands, if not applicable.
The duration of treatment depends on the type and severity of the lesions. If there is no improvement or the patient feels worse, see a doctor.
Contraindications
Allergy to ethacridine lactate, other acridine derivatives or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.
Do not use in children under 2 years of age.
Storage
Keep the preparation out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not refrigerate or freeze.
Protect from light.
Do not use this medicine if you experience changes in its external appearance or smell.
Side effects
Rivel, like any other medicine, can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Rare (less than 1 in 1000 people):
local skin irritation including erythema, burning sensation, itching, rash,
local allergic reactions.
Interactions
Tell the doctor or pharmacist about all the preparations that the patient is taking or has recently taken, as well as about the preparations that the patient is planning to use.
There are no data on preparation interactions.
The concomitant use of Rivel with other topical medications should be avoided.
Warnings and Precautions
In the event of symptoms of irritation or skin changes, discontinue use of the preparation, and if these symptoms persist, consult a doctor.
Avoid eye contact with the preparation, and if the gel gets into your eyes, rinse your eyes with plenty of water.
Do not use on large areas of damaged skin.
It should not be used on the oral mucosa.
If the medicine has been ingested by mistake, contact your doctor immediately.
Avoid contact of the preparation with clothing (possible stains and discoloration).
The preparation contains:
methyl parahydroxybenzoate and propyl parahydroxybenzoate, which may cause allergic reactions (possible delayed reactions),
80 mg of alcohol (ethanol) in 1 g of gel, i.e. 40 mg of ethanol in each dosage unit (in 0.5 g of the preparation, i.e. in about 2.5 cm of gel squeezed out of a tube) and cause burning of damaged skin,
100 mg of propylene glycol in 1 g of gel, i.e. 50 mg of propylene glycol in each dosage unit (in 0.5 g of the preparation, i.e. in about 2.5 cm of gel squeezed out of the tube), which may cause skin irritation.
Due to the content of propylene glycol, the preparation should not be used on open wounds or large areas of wounded or damaged skin (e.g. burns) without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.
Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
The preparation should be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women only if the doctor decides that it is necessary.
Driving vehicles and operating machinery
The preparation has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
