Salicylic alcohol is used for infectious skin lesions: common acne, pyoderma.

Dosage form: Solution for external use, alcohol.

Basic physical and chemical properties: transparent colorless liquid with the smell of alcohol.

Pharmacological group: Dermatological agents.

Pharmacological properties: Antiseptic. When applied topically, it has an antimicrobial, irritating, distracting effect.

Structure

Active ingredient: salicylic acid; 100 ml of solution contains salicylic acid 1 g.

Excipients: ethanol 70%.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug.

Avoid contact with eyes, do not apply to mucous membranes.

Interaction

Topical application of salicylic acid should not be combined with oral administration of drugs containing acetylsalicylic acid and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Do not use in conjunction with benzoyl peroxide and topical retinoids.

Salicylic acid can increase the permeability of the skin to other topical drugs and thereby increase their absorption into the body. In addition, salicylic acid can enhance the undesirable effect of methotrexate and the hypoglycemic effect of oral antidiabetic drugs - sulfonylurea derivatives.

Application features

Do not apply the drug to large areas of the skin.

During pregnancy and lactation, the use of the drug is possible only when the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus or child.

Salicylic alcohol is prescribed for children from the age of 12.

Method of administration and dosage

Apply externally, lubricating or rubbing the affected skin with a cotton swab soaked in the drug, 2-3 times a day.

The course of treatment is determined by the doctor depending on the course and severity of the disease.

Overdose

When using large doses of the drug, keratolytic effects and allergic reactions may increase. In this case, the drug must be washed off with water, consult a doctor. SPECIAL.

Adverse Reactions

Changes in the skin are possible: dryness, peeling, irritation, contact dermatitis, allergic reactions (urticaria, itching), which require discontinuation of the drug.

With prolonged use, the drug may be absorbed into the general bloodstream and the development of side effects characteristic of salicylates: tinnitus, dizziness, epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, acidosis, rapid breathing.
