Structure:

Salicylic acid, when applied topically, has a weak antiseptic, as well as irritating and distracting effect. Suppresses the secretion of the sebaceous and sweat glands. In low concentrations it has a keratoplastic effect, and in high concentrations it has a keratolytic effect.

Salicylic ointment is applied externally, is practically not absorbed into the systemic circulation and does not have a resorptive effect.

Indications for use.

Oily seborrhea, acne vulgaris, chronic eczema, pyoderma, diaper rash, psoriasis, dyskeratosis, ichthyosis, warts, calluses, red hairs.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to salicylic acid.

Method of administration and dosage.

Before applying a dressing with salicylic ointment, the wounds are freed from necrotic masses, washed with an antiseptic solution. the ointment is applied to the affected surface 2-3 times a day. for psoriasis, red hair lichen, ichthyosis, seborrhea, 2% ointment is used, and with severe inflammation, it is diluted with petroleum jelly in a ratio of 1: 2 - 1: 4 and used 1-2 times a day; after removing peeling, use other means. for the treatment of calluses and cornification of the skin, a 10% ointment is used.

The ointment is applied to the wounds with a sterile napkin or a sterile dressing soaked in ointment is applied to the wounds. The duration of the course of treatment is from 6 to 20 days.

Overdose.

The ointment is for external use only. when taken internally, heartburn and pain occur along the esophagus and in the stomach, repeated vomiting, may be mixed with blood, sometimes - liquid feces with an admixture of blood. patients excited, in a state of euphoria. dizziness, tinnitus, hearing impairment, visual impairment appear. breathing is noisy, rapid.

Treatment: gastric lavage through a tube, forced diuresis, the appointment of a significant amount of alkaline fluid.
