Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics. Chondroitin Sulfate is an important component of bones and cartilage in joints that helps maintain the integrity of the cartilage matrix by:

an increase in the anabolic activity of chondrocytes (stimulation of proteoglycan synthesis);

inhibiting the adverse effects of interleukin-1β on the cartilage matrix;

preventing excessive degradation of the cartilage matrix (by inhibiting elastase in tissues, as well as by reducing the activity of metalloproteases, such as stromelysin and collagenase, in parallel with an increase in the activity of a tissue inhibitor of metalloproteases, which blocks these enzymes).

Chondroitin sulfate also improves joint synovial homeostasis by stimulating hyaluronic acid synthesis, thus helping to maintain proper synovial fluid viscosity. Due to the enzymatic and anti-free radical properties of chondroitin sulfate inhibits the development of inflammatory reactions.

Pharmacokinetics. After oral administration of chondroitin sulfate is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, Cmax in blood plasma is reached after 4 hours.

The preparation accumulates mainly in the synovial fluid. It is excreted mainly in the feces.

Indications

Additional therapy for degenerative diseases of the joints and spine - osteoarthritis, intervertebral osteochondrosis.

Application

Capsules are swallowed whole, washed down with 250 ml of water.

Adults and children over the age of 15 years take 1 capsule (500 mg) 2 times a day (daily dose - 1 g). The duration of the course of treatment is 3–6 months.

Contraindications

History of allergic reactions to any components of the preparation.

Side effects

Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: infrequently - erythema, urticaria, eczema, maculopapular rash (with or without itching) and / or edema;

from the gastrointestinal tract: rarely - nausea, vomiting;

on the part of the immune system: single - angioedema (Quincke's edema).

special instructions

During pregnancy and breastfeeding. since the relevant studies have not been carried out, the preparation is not recommended for use during the specified period.

Children. The preparation is contraindicated in children under 15 years of age.

Does not affect the reaction rate when driving or operating other mechanisms.
