Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics. A preparation of natural origin obtained according to the original technology from the aboveground part of the tribulus terrestris l. the preparation contains predominantly steroidal saponins of the furostanol type, among which protodioscin predominates. the mechanism of action of the preparation is due to this component.

Protodioscin is metabolized in the body to dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), which has a beneficial effect on cell membrane permeability, erectile function, cholesterol metabolism and immunity. Other active furostanol saponins in the Tribulus terrestris L. plant extract seem to modulate the effect of protodioscin.

Tribestan has a tonic effect and stimulates some functions of the reproductive system. In men, it restores and improves libido and erection. Has a stimulating effect on spermatogenesis, increasing the number of sperm and their motility, increases testosterone levels. In women, Tribestan also improves libido, stimulates ovulation. Favorably affects vasomotor manifestations in natural and post-castration climacteric syndrome as a result of its balancing effect on hormonal activity.

The results in healthy volunteers show that Tribestan affects the level of hormones of the pituitary-gonadal axis in blood plasma without significantly altering the levels of adrenal hormones and ACTH.

Tribestan has a hypolipidemic effect, and in patients with dyslipoproteinemia, it significantly reduces total cholesterol and LDL, without affecting the levels of TG and HDL in blood plasma.

Tribestan has antihypertensive and diuretic effects.

Pharmacokinetics. The active substance protodioscin is rapidly excreted from the blood plasma - already within 3 hours its concentration is insignificant. It is excreted mainly in the bile. The low percentage of elimination of unchanged protodioscin in comparison with the dose taken confirms the assumption that it is intensively biotransformed in the body.

Indications

For the prevention and treatment (monotherapy and complex) of disorders of the reproductive system in men and women. with erectile dysfunction for men - to enhance libido, strength and duration of erection. as monotherapy or in the complex therapy of certain forms of infertility in men: infertility based on idiopathic oligoasthenoteratospermia (a decrease in the number and quality of sperm in excreted semen); infertility in the absence of improvement in sperm parameters within 1 year after surgery for varicocele; immunologically determined infertility.

Women with climacteric and post-castration syndrome with identified neurovegetative and neuropsychic manifestations; with endocrine ovarian infertility. In case of violation of fat metabolism (dyslipoproteinemia) to reduce total cholesterol and LDL.

Application

The tablets are taken orally after meals.

With a decrease in libido, impotence and infertility. In men with reduced libido, impotence and infertility, a dosage of 1-2 tablets 3 times a day is recommended. The duration of treatment is at least 90 days. The course of treatment can be repeated until a positive therapeutic effect is obtained.

In women with endocrine infertility, a dosage of 1-2 tablets 3 times a day from the 1st to the 12th day of the menstrual cycle is recommended. This course can be repeated periodically until pregnancy.

Dyslipoproteinemia. 2 tablets 3 times a day. The duration of treatment is at least 3 months.

Menopause and post-castration syndrome in women. 1-2 tablets 3 times a day for 60-90 days. After improving the condition, they gradually switch to a maintenance dose - 2 tablets per day for 1-2 years.

Contraindications

Tribestan is contraindicated for:

• hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation;
• severe cardiovascular and renal diseases;
• adenoma of the prostate gland.

Side effects

Hypersensitivity reactions are possible. when taken before meals, the preparation may irritate the gastric mucosa.

Special instructions

When treating women with climacteric syndrome, the transition from a therapeutic dose to a maintenance dose should be gradual. after a sharp decrease or cancellation of the effective dose of the preparation, a re-manifestation of a complex of climacteric symptoms is possible.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding. The potential risk to humans is unknown. Due to the lack of clinical studies in pregnant women, the preparation Tribestan is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation. When pregnancy is established, the preparation should be discontinued.

Children. It is not recommended to use the preparation in children under the age of 18.

The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving or working with other mechanisms. Does not affect.

Interactions

The simultaneous use of the preparation tribestan with preparations that stimulate ovulation leads to a mutual enhancement of their effects.

The combined use of Tribestan with diuretics can enhance the effects of the latter and potentiate the hypotensive effect of antihypertensive preparations.

Overdose

To date, there have been no cases of overdose of the preparation tribestan. when taking a large amount of the preparation, symptomatic treatment is indicated.
