Vigalex Bio 1000 IU is a preparation containing vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), which is the active ingredient of this preparation. Vitamin D3 contributes to the maintenance of healthy bones. In the presence of vitamin D deficiency, bone calcification (rickets) or bone loss (osteomalacia) can occur.


Vigalex Forte 1000 IU is used in patients from 6 years of age with a normal body weight:
  • to prevent vitamin D deficiency in children and adults,
  • in the prevention of vitamin D deficiency in women planning pregnancy, pregnant and breastfeeding women in consultation with a doctor,
  • in the prevention of rickets and osteomalacia in children and adults,
  • supportive in the treatment of osteoporosis in adults.


1 tablet contains:
  • active substance: cholecalciferol 10 mg, powder, corresponding to 0.025 mg (1000 IU) of cholecalciferol (vitamin D3),
  • excipients: microcrystalline cellulose (type 102), calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, pregelatinized starch, maize starch, crospovidone (type A), sucrose, magnesium stearate, sodium ascorbate, medium chain saturated fatty acid triglycerides, anhydrous colloidal silica, all-rac- α-Tocopherol.


Prevention of vitamin D3 deficiency.


Take the medicine as described in the package leaflet or according to the doctor's or pharmacist's instructions. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Children from 6 to 10 years of age with normal body weight: 1000 IU daily.

Adolescents from 11 to 18 years of age with normal body weight:

  • to prevent vitamin D deficiency: 1000 to 2000 IU per day,
  • prevention of rickets and osteomalacia: 2000 IU daily.

Adults with a normal body weight:

  • prevention of vitamin D deficiency: 1000 to 2000 IU per day,
  • prevention of rickets and osteomalacia: 2000 IU per day,
  • supportive treatment of osteoporosis: 2,000 to 4,000 IU per day.

Women planning pregnancy, pregnant and breastfeeding women: consult your doctor about the dose for you.

Patients with renal insufficiency: should not be used in patients with renal insufficiency without medical supervision.

Patients with hepatic insufficiency: there are no special dosage recommendations.


  • If you have kidney stones or severe kidney failure.
  • In the case of alleged hypoparathyroidism.
  • When the patient is allergic to the active ingredient or any of the other ingredients of these drugs.
  • If you have hypercalcemia (too much calcium in the blood) or hypercalciuria (too much calcium in the urine).


Keep the drug out of the sight and reach of children, at a temperature below 30ºC.

Side effects

This medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):

  • gastrointestinal complaints such as constipation, flatulence, nausea, abdominal pain or diarrhea
  • hypersensitivity reactions such as itchy skin, rash or hives;
  • in the case of long-term use of high doses, hypercalcaemia (too much calcium in the blood) and hypercalciuria (excessive excretion of calcium in the urine) occur. Fatalities have been reported in individual cases.


  • Antacids used to treat hyperacidity, containing aluminum, used with Vigalex Bio may lead to an increase in blood levels of aluminum, thereby increasing the risk of bone toxicity of aluminum.
  • Magnesium-containing antacids, used simultaneously with Vigalex Bio, may lead to an increase in the level of magnesium in the blood.
  • Some medicines with anti-epileptic, sedative or hypnotic effects (containing phenytoin or barbiturates) may reduce the effect of Vigalex Bio when used at the same time.
  • Diuretics can lead to hypercalcaemia (increased calcium levels) caused by decreased renal calcium excretion.
  • Concomitant use of glucocorticoids (hormones of the adrenal cortex) may reduce the effect of Vigalex Bio.
  • Vigalex Bio may increase the effect and toxicity of digitalis glycosides, leading to the risk of developing cardiac arrhythmias.
  • Simultaneous use of vitamin D metabolites or analogues and Vigalex Bio is possible only on the recommendation of a doctor, only in exceptional cases, provided that serum calcium levels are controlled.
  • Rifampicin and isoniazid may reduce the effect of Vigalex Bio.

Warnings and Precautions

If you are taking other preparations containing vitamin D, please inform your doctor, as additional doses of vitamin D can only be taken under medical supervision.

Vigalex Bio should be used under medical supervision:

  • if you have sarcoidosis (an immune system disease that can increase the amount of vitamin D in your body)
  • when kidney problems occur,
  • during treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics,
  • for children under the age of 6,
  • when the use of vitamin D is prolonged (over 3 months), because in this case the doctor should check the level of calcium in the serum and in the urine and check the kidney function by measuring the level of creatinine in the patient's blood
  • the drug contains sucrose, if the patient has been diagnosed with an intolerance to some sugars, the patient should consult a doctor before taking these drugs.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding

  • When the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, thinks that she may be pregnant or is planning to have a baby, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.

Driving vehicles and operating machinery

  • Vigalex Bionie affects the ability to drive and use machines.
